Then the king answered them harshly. King Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders.

The king did not listen to the people, for the event occurred because of God, that the Lord might establish His word that He spoke through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

And out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. Power was given them as the scorpions of the earth have power.

They were given authority, not to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings a man.
