1 Samuel 7:6

They gathered together to Mizpah. And they drew water and poured it out before the Lord. And they fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against the Lord.” So Samuel judged the Israelites in Mizpah.

and Mizpah, for he said, “May the Lord watch between you and me, when we are apart from one another.

We will surely die and are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. Yet God does not take away a life; He devises plans so that His banished ones will not be cast out from Him.

“Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer You? I will lay my hand over my mouth.

Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”

We, like our fathers, have sinned; we have committed iniquity; we have behaved wickedly.

Rivers of water run down from my eyes, because they keep not Your law.

My tears have been my food day and night, while they continually say to me, “Where is your God?”

I am weary with my groaning; all night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping.

Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.   Selah

Surely after I turned back, I repented; and after I was instructed, I struck myself on my thigh; I was ashamed and even humiliated because I bore the reproach of my youth.”

In the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, they proclaimed a fast before the Lord to all the people in Jerusalem and to all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem.

Oh, that my head were waters and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

My eyes fail with tears, my spirit is greatly troubled; my bile is poured on the ground because of the destruction of the daughter of my people, because the children and infants faint in the streets of the city.

My eyes flow and do not cease, without respite,

The crown has fallen from our head; woe to us, for we have sinned!

Will you judge them, son of man, will you judge them? Cause them to know the abominations of their fathers.

Hear this, O priests! Pay attention, O house of Israel! Listen, O house of the king! For the judgment is for you, because you have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread over Tabor,

Yet even now, declares the Lord, return to Me with all your heart, and with fasting and with weeping and with mourning.

This shall be a perpetual statute for you so that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall humble yourselves, and do no work of any kind, whether it is the native citizen or the stranger who sojourns among you.

But if they confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their treachery that they committed against Me, and also that they have walked contrary to Me,

I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.

Then the Israelites cried out to the Lord, “We have sinned against You, for we have abandoned our God and worshipped the Baals.”

Then the Israelites said to the Lord, “We have sinned. Do to us whatever seems good in Your sight. Please, just deliver us today.”

When the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the Israelites, the people raised their voices and wept aloud.

Then the Israelites went up and wept before the Lord until evening. They asked the Lord, “Should we advance and fight our brother-tribesmen the Benjamites again?” The Lord said, “Advance against them.”

Then all the Israelites, all the people, went up to Bethel where they wept and sat before the Lord. They fasted that day until evening and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

The Spirit of the Lord came on him, and he judged Israel. He went out to battle, and the Lord gave Cushan-Rishathaim, king of Mesopotamia, into his hands, so that Othniel overpowered Cushan-Rishathaim.

But Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrow. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord.

Therefore Samuel called the people together unto the Lord at Mizpah.

They cried to the Lord, and said, ‘We have sinned, because we have forsaken the Lord and have served the Baals and the Ashtoreths. But now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve You.’

So Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
