Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through and abuse me.” But his armor bearer would not, for he was very afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword and fell upon it.

After the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, David had remained two days in Ziklag.

David said to him, “How is it that you did not fear raising your hand to destroy the anointed of the Lord?”

His father and mother said to him, “Are there no women among your relatives, or all of our people, that you are intending to take a wife from among the uncircumcised Philistines?” Yet Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she pleases me well.”

Urgently he called to the young man who carried his gear and said to him, “Draw your sword and kill me, so that people may not say about me, ‘A woman killed him.’ ” So the young man pierced him through, and he died.

Jonathan said to the young man bearing his armor, “Come, and let us cross over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. Perhaps the Lord will work for us, for the Lord is not limited to save by many or by few.”

David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying, “What will be done for the man that kills this Philistine and takes away this reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

Your servant slew both the lion and the bear. And this uncircumcised Philistine will be as one of them, because he has reviled the armies of the living God.”

David said, “As the Lord lives, the Lord will strike him, or his day will come to die, or he will go down into battle and perish.

When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword and died with him.
