For he took his life in his hand and struck down the Philistine, and the Lord made a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it and rejoiced. Now why then would you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without cause?”

He arose and attacked the Philistines until his hand grew weary and stuck to the sword. The Lord brought about a great victory that day, and the people returned only to plunder.

But they stood their ground in the middle of the field, defended it, and killed the Philistines; and the Lord saved them by a great victory.

These three broke through the Philistine camp, drew water from the well of Bethlehem by the gate, and carried it back to David. However, he was not willing to drink it but poured out the water to the Lord.

So they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

My life is continually in my hand, yet I do not forget Your law.

When Pilate saw that he could not prevail, but rather that unrest was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this righteous Man. See to it yourselves.”

saying, “I have sinned in that I have betrayed innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? You must see to that.”

But that the word which is written in their law might be fulfilled, ‘They hated Me without a cause.’

But none of these things deter me. Nor do I count my life of value to myself, so that I may joyfully finish my course and the ministry which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

because for the work of Christ he was near death, not regarding his life, endeavoring to make up for your lack of service toward me.

how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,

When I saw that you were not going to save me, I took my life in my own hands and crossed over to the Ammonites. Then the Lord gave them into my hands. Now why have you come up to me today to wage war against me?”

considering that my father waged war for you, risked his life for you, and delivered you from the hands of Midian?

Saul said, “There will not be a man put to death this day, for today the Lord has worked deliverance in Israel.”

The people said to Saul, “Will Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? God forbid. As the Lord lives, there will not one hair of his head fall to the ground. For he has worked with God this day.” So the people rescued Jonathan, and he did not die.

So Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan and Saul vowed, “As the Lord lives, he will not be killed.”

Jonathan answered Saul his father and said to him, “Why should he be killed? What has he done?”

Then Ahimelech answered the king and said, “And who is as faithful among all your servants as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, chief of your bodyguard, and is honored in your house?

The woman came to Saul and saw that he was terrified. And she said to him, “Behold, your handmaid has obeyed your voice. I have taken my life in my hand and have listened to your words which you spoke to me.
