Samuel said, “When you were little in your own sight, were you not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the Lord anointed you king over Israel?
When Ephraim spoke, trembling, he was exalted in Israel. But he incurred guilt through Baal worship and he died.
Therefore whoever humbles himself like this little child is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father’s house.”
Then Samuel took a vial of oil and poured it upon his head. And he kissed him and said, “Has not the Lord anointed you over His inheritance as ruler?
Therefore they inquired again of the Lord, “Has the man come here yet?” And the Lord answered, “Behold, he has hidden himself among the equipment.”
Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stop, and I will tell you what the Lord spoke to me this night.” And he said to him, “Speak.”
Saul answered, “Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why do you speak to me this way?”
