the descendants of those who were left in the land and whom the people of Israel were not able to utterly destroy, were conscripted by Solomon for slave labor to this day.

King Solomon drafted men from all Israel, totaling thirty thousand men.

This is the account of the forced labor which King Solomon conscripted to build the house of the Lord and his own house, Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.

All the people who were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not Israelites,

So David gave instructions to gather together those sojourning in the land of Israel, and he appointed stonemasons to cut hewn stones for building the house of God.

and from their descendants who remained from these peoples in the land and whom the Israelites did not finish destroying, Solomon brought them up to be forced labor, even to this day.

Now these are the leaders of the provinces who lived in Jerusalem (though in the cities of Judah everyone lived on his own property within their cities): Israel, the priests, the Levites, the temple servants, and the descendants of Solomon’s servants.

The sons of Solomon’s servants: the sons of Sotai, the sons of Sophereth, the sons of Perida,

The hand of the diligent will rule, but the lazy will be put to forced labor.

It shall be, if it gives you a reply of peace and opens to you, then it must be that all the people that are found within shall become slaves to you and they shall serve you.

The people of Judah were not able to drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem, so the Jebusites live with the people of Judah in Jerusalem to this day.

They did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites live in the midst of Ephraim until this day performing heavy labor as slaves.

Yet the sons of Manasseh could not take possession of those cities, because the Canaanites were determined to live in that land.

But when the Israelites became strong, they put the Canaanites to hard labor as slaves, but they did not actually drive them out.

However, the tribe of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem, so the Jebusites live with the tribe of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

The border of the Amorites was from the Ascent of Akrabbim to Sela and beyond.

The anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and He said, “Because this nation has violated My covenant that I commanded their fathers and has not heeded My voice,

Now these are the nations that the Lord left to test those in Israel who had not experienced war in Canaan
