He said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I had appointed to utter destruction, you shall pay for his life with your life and his people with your people.’ ”

Hazael said, “Why are you weeping, my lord?” He said, “Because I know the evil that you will do to the Israelites. You will set their fortresses on fire. You will kill their young men with the sword. You will smash their children and rip open their pregnant women.”

No one devoted of men, who shall be doomed to death, shall be redeemed; he shall surely be put to death.

As you did not obey the voice of the Lord and did not carry out His fierce wrath against Amalek, therefore the Lord has done this thing to you this day.
