Modern English Version

The king said to Abiathar the priest, “Go to Anathoth, to your own fields, for you are worthy of death. But I will not at this time put you to death, because you bore the ark of the Lord God before David my father and because you shared in all the hardships my father endured.”

David became very angry because of this man. He said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who did this deserves to die.

The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin,

And whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, truly I tell you, he shall in no way lose his reward.”

You are those who have continued with Me in My trials.

Have you endured so many things for nothing, if indeed it was for nothing?

Anathoth, and Almon, together with the grazing lands of each: four cities.

You shall see the distress of My dwelling, despite all the good which will be done for Israel. And there shall not be an elderly man in your house perpetually.

This thing is not good which you have done. As the Lord lives, you are worthy of death because you have not guarded your master, the Lord’s anointed. And now, see where is the king’s spear? And the jug of water that was at his head?”
