Thus the king did not listen to the people, for the cause was from the Lord, that He might fulfill His saying, which the Lord spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

“Now therefore, behold, the Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all your prophets here, and He has spoken evil concerning you!”

Then Absalom and all of the men of Israel said, “The advice of Hushai the Arkite is better than the advice of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had decided to undermine the prudent advice of Ahithophel, so that the Lord might bring calamity to Absalom.

“Now brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers.

Declare them guilty, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against You.

Also the Strength of Israel will not lie or repent, for He is not a man, that He should repent.”

Then Laban and Bethuel answered, “This thing comes from the Lord; we cannot speak to you bad or good.
