Adonijah feared Solomon. So he got up and went to the altar and held on to its horns.

All the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid and rose up and went on their way.

Then Solomon was told, “Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon, for he has caught hold of the horns on the altar, saying ‘Let King Solomon swear to me today that he will not slay his servant with the sword.’ ”

Then word came to Joab, for Joab had followed Adonijah, though he did not support Absalom. And Joab fled to the tabernacle of the Lord and caught hold of the horns of the altar.

The Lord is God, and He has given us light; bind the sacrifice with cords, to the horns of the altar.

But if a man willfully comes upon his neighbor in order to kill him cunningly, then you must take him from My altar, that he may die.

You shall make its horns on its four corners. Its horns shall be part of it, and you shall overlay it with bronze.

Aaron must make atonement on its horns once a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonement. Once a year he must make atonement on it throughout your generations. It is most holy to the Lord.

He made its horns on its four corners. The horns were part of the same piece, and he overlaid it with bronze.

So the altar shall be four cubits. And from the altar and upward shall be four horns.
