Whoever has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, but closes his heart of compassion from him, how can the love of God remain in him?

A righteous man tends to the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, but he who honors Him is kind to the poor.

He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay what he has given.

He who shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he also will cry out, but will not be heard.

He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

John answered, “He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none. And he who has food, let him do likewise.”

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that through His poverty you might be rich.

But do not forget to do good and to share. For with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

If a brother or sister is naked and lacking daily food,

and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” and yet you give them nothing that the body needs, what does it profit?

If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar. For whoever does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves the one born of the Father.
