He who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

These signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

Therefore let us pursue the things which produce peace and the things that build up one another.

to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.

God has put these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, and various tongues.

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I have become as sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing.

So, seeing that you are zealous concerning spiritual gifts, seek that you may excel in the edifying of the church.

So tongues are for a sign, not to believers, but to unbelievers. But prophesying does not serve unbelievers, but believers.

How is it then, brothers? When you come together, every one of you has a psalm, a teaching, a tongue, a revelation, and an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

But he who prophesies speaks to men for their edification and exhortation and comfort.

I desire that you all speak in tongues, but even more that you prophesy. For greater is he who prophesies than he who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edification.
