Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were waiting at En-rogel. A servant girl would go report to them, and they would go report to King David, because they could not be seen entering the city.
The servants of Absalom came to the woman at the house and said, “Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” She said, “They crossed over the brook of water.” When they searched, they could not find them. So they returned to Jerusalem.
Ahimaaz again said to Joab, “Whatever may happen, let me run also, after the Cushite.” Then Joab said, “Why is it that you want to run, my son? There is no messenger’s reward for you to obtain.”
The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Kerethites, and the Pelethites. And they had him ride on the king’s mule.
Azariah the chief priest from the house of Zadok said, “Since they began to bring the contributions into the house of the Lord, there has been plenty of food and a large amount left over. For the Lord has blessed His people, and this great abundance is left over.”
