On that day then, David delivered for the first time this psalm of thanksgiving to the Lord into the hand of Asaph and his brothers:

Then David and the officers of the army also set apart for the service some of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, those who prophesied with lyres, harps, and cymbals. The number of those who did the work according to their service was:

From the sons of Asaph: Zakkur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the guidance of Asaph, who prophesied according to the decree of the king.

These were the divisions of the gatekeepers: from the Korahites, Meshelemiah the son of Kore, one of the sons of Asaph.

The singers, the sons of Asaph, were in their places according to the command of David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer. The gatekeepers were at each of the gates; they did not need to leave their service, for their brothers the Levites made preparations for them.

and all the Levitical singers, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, with their sons and relatives, all clothed in fine linen, with cymbals, harps, and lyres, stood to the east of the altar, and with them one hundred and twenty priests who were sounding with trumpets,

Those who came with the singers were: the sons of Asaph —one hundred and twenty-eight.

When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their apparel stood with trumpets and, from the Levites, the sons of Asaph stood with cymbals to praise the Lord, following the example of David king of Israel.

Mattaniah the son of Mika, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, was the first to begin the thanksgiving at prayer, Bakbukiah was the second out of his relatives, and then Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

The overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mika. Some of the sons of Asaph were the singers attending to the work of the house of God,

and some of the priests with trumpets—Zechariah, the son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micaiah, the son of Zakkur, the son of Asaph,

For in the former days of David and Asaph there were leaders for the singers, the songs of praise, and thanksgivings to God.

The singers: the sons of Asaph, one hundred and forty-eight.

The Mighty One, God the Lord, has spoken and summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.

Truly God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.

O God, why have You cast us off forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture?

We give thanks to You, O God; we give thanks, for Your name is near; Your wondrous works declare it.

In Judah God is known; His name is great in Israel.

My voice rises to God, thus will I cry aloud; my voice rises to God, thus will He hear me.

Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

O God, the nations have come into Your inheritance; Your holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem in ruins.

Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who are enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth!

Sing aloud to God our strength; make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.

God has taken His place in the divine council; He renders judgment among the gods.

Do not keep silent, O God; do not hold Your peace or be still, O God.

The lot came out for the clans of the Kohathites, so the Levites who were descendants of Aaron received an allotment of thirteen cities from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.

From the tribes of Judah and Simeon they gave the following cities with these names,
