These are the ones whom David appointed over the service of song in the house of the Lord, after the ark rested there.

They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had erected for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

The priests and Levites brought up the ark of the Lord, the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy implements that were in the tabernacle.

So David built houses for himself in the City of David, and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.

So David, the elders of Israel, and the leaders of the thousands went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obed-Edom with rejoicing.

Now David was clothed in a fine linen robe, as were the Levites who carried the ark, the singers, and Kenaniah, the conductor of singing and singers. David himself wore a linen ephod.

Shimea his son, Haggiah his son, and Asaiah his son.

Now they were ministering before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of meeting with singing until Solomon had built the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, and they were arranged by their order according to their service.

Now these are the singers, heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites, who stayed in the temple chambers, free from other service, because they were occupied with the work day and night.

When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their apparel stood with trumpets and, from the Levites, the sons of Asaph stood with cymbals to praise the Lord, following the example of David king of Israel.

“This is My resting place forever; here will I dwell, for I have chosen it.

Arise, O  Lord, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength.

Outside the inner gate were the chambers for the singers in the inner court, one at the side of the north gate facing south, the other at the side of the east gate facing north.
