Then David, along with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them to their offices by their service.

Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were priests. Seraiah was scribe.

The king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada over the army in place of Joab and put Zadok the priest in the place of Abiathar.

Then David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests and for the Levites: Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab.

And he left Zadok the priest and his priestly brothers before the tabernacle of the Lord at the high place that was at Gibeon

Zadok the son of Ahitub and Abimelech the son of Abiathar served as priests, while Shavsha was the scribe.

These also cast lots just as their brothers, the sons of Aaron, in the presence of David the king, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and of the Levites, the head of the fathers’ houses as well as his younger brother.

Since the sons of Eleazar were found to have more chief men than the sons of Ithamar, they divided them into sixteen heads of the fathers’ houses for the sons of Eleazar, and eight for the sons of Ithamar, according to their fathers’ houses.

Shemaiah the son of Nethanel, the Levite scribe, wrote them down in the presence of the king, the leaders, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and the Levites, one father’s house taken for Eleazar and one for Ithamar.

According to the ruling of David his father, he set the divisions of the priests for their service, and the Levites for their function to praise and serve before the priests according to the daily duty, and even the gatekeepers for their divisions at each gate, for this was the commandment of David the man of God.

Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest. And Ahimelech trembled coming to meet David and said to him, “Why are you alone and no man is with you?”
