Modern English Version

Behold, a son shall be born to you who shall be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies all around. Solomon will be his name, and I will give peace and tranquility to Israel in his days.

Go to King David and say to him, ‘Did not you, my lord, O king, swear to your handmaid, saying: Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? Why then does Adonijah reign?’

He said, “You know that the kingdom was mine and that all Israel viewed me as the king. However, the kingdom has become my brother’s, for it was given to him by the Lord.

“Now, O  Lord, my God, You have made Your servant king in place of my father David, and I am still a little child and do not know how to go out or come in.

Judah and Israel had a large populace, as numerous as the sand by the sea. They ate and drank and were happy.

For he had dominion over all the region on this side of the River from Tiphsah to Gaza, over all the kings on this side of the River, and he had peace on all borders of his land.

Judah and Israel lived safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan to Beer-sheba all the days of Solomon.

But now the Lord my God has given me peace on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor misfortune.

“Blessed be the Lord who has given rest to His people Israel according to all that He promised. Not one word of His promises which He gave by the hand of Moses His servant has failed.

Then it will be when your days are full and you go to your fathers, I will raise up your seed after you from your own sons. His kingdom I will establish.

“Is not the Lord your God with you? Has He not given you rest all around? For He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land is subdued before the Lord and His people.

You have kept what You promised Your servant David my father. You have both spoken with Your mouth and fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this day.

When He gives quietness, who then can make trouble? And when He hides His face, who then can behold Him, whether it is done against a nation or against a man only?

Give the king Your justice, O God, and Your righteousness to the king’s son!

In his days may the righteous flourish and peace abound, until the moon is no more.

Lord, You will ordain peace for us, for You also have done all our works for us.

I form the light and create darkness; I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things.

Then Gideon built an altar for the Lord there and called it The Lord Is Peace. Even to this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
