But Joab said, “May the Lord increase the number of His people a hundred times more. My lord the king, are not all of them my lord’s servants? Why then should my lord require this? Why should it bring guilt on Israel?”

In the multitude of people is the glory of a king, but in the lack of subjects is the ruin of a prince.

You have increased the nation, O  Lord, You have increased the nation; You are glorified; You have extended all the borders of the land.

Your descendants also would have been as the sand and your offspring like grains of sand; their name would not have been cut off nor destroyed from before Me.

May the Lord, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times more numerous and bless you, just as He has promised you!

They came to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead and said to them,

No, my sons! Truly, it is not a good report that I hear the people of the Lord spreading.
