David replied to Gad, “I am in great distress. Let me fall into the hands of the Lord, for His mercies are very great, but do not let me fall into the hand of man.”

When a servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots surrounded the city. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What will we do?”

If we say, ‘Let us enter the city,’ the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. But if we sit here, we die also. Now come, let us fall into the camp of the Arameans. If they spare our lives, we will live, and if they kill us, we will die.”

And there was a prophet there whose name was Oded, and he went out to the army as it approached Samaria and said to them, “Behold, the anger of the Lord God of your fathers is against Judah, and He gave them into your hand, and you all have killed them in a rage that has reached even to heaven.

“All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that whoever, whether man or woman, wishes to come to the king at the inner court but has not been summoned, there is one law—to put him to death—unless for some reason the king should hold out the golden scepter so that he might live. I, however, have not been summoned to come to the king for these thirty days.”

“Go, gather all the Jews who can be found in Susa, then fast for me. Stop eating and drinking for three days, night or day. I and my young women will fast likewise. Only then would I dare go to the king since it is not allowed by law, and if I perish, I perish.”

The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in mercy.

Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders; they did not remember the abundance of Your mercy, but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.

Great are Your tender mercies, O  Lord; give me life according to Your judgments.

But there is forgiveness with You, so that You may be feared.

O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption.

But as for me, in the abundance of Your mercy I will enter Your house; in fear of You I will worship at Your holy temple.

But as for me, my prayer is to You, O  Lord, at an acceptable time; O God, in the abundance of Your mercy, answer me in the truth of Your salvation.

Hear me, O  Lord, for Your lovingkindness is good; turn to me according to the abundance of Your tender mercies.

But You, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abundant in mercy and truth.

For You, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in mercy to all who call on You.

A righteous man tends to the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

They lift it on the shoulder, they carry it, and they set it in its place, and it stands; from its place it does not move. If one shall cry to it, it cannot answer nor save him out of his trouble.

I was angry with My people; I have polluted My inheritance and given them into your hand. You did not show them mercy; on the aged you have laid your yoke very heavily.

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

Look down from heaven and see, from Your holy and glorious habitation. Where are Your zeal and Your strength? The stirrings of Your heart and Your mercies toward me are restrained.

I will mention the steadfast love of the Lord and the praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord has bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which He has bestowed on them according to His mercy, and according to the multitude of His kindnesses.

But though He causes grief, yet He will have compassion according to the abundance of His mercies.

Who knows? God may relent and change His mind. He may turn from His fierce anger, so that we will not perish.”

He prayed to the Lord and said, “O  Lord! Is this not what I said while I was still in my own land? This is the reason that I fled before to Tarshish, because I knew that You are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in faithfulness, and ready to relent from punishment.

Who is a God like You, bearing iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of His inheritance? He does not remain angry forever, because He delights in benevolence.

O  Lord, I have heard the report of You, and was afraid; O  Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of these years make them known; in wrath remember mercy.

“Now My soul is troubled. What shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? Instead, for this reason I came to this hour.

I am in a difficult position between the two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, which is far better.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
