Matthew's Bible 1537

While the vngodlye hath the ouer hand, the pore must suffer persecutyon. O that they were taken in the ymagynacion which they go aboute.

For the synne of their mouth, for the wordes of their lyppes, & because of their pryde, let them be taken: and why? their preachyng is of cursing and lyes.

O let not the fote of pride ouertake me, O let not the hande of the vngodly caste me doune.

For hys vnhappinesse shall come vpon hys owne head, and hys wyckednes shal fal vpon hys owne pate.

The wyckednesses of the vngodly shal catch him selfe, and with the snares of of his owne synnes shall he be trapped.

Be thou suertye for thy seruaunte too do hym good, that the proude do me no wronge.

Let the lieng lippes be put to silence which cruely, disdainefully, and despitefully speake against the rightuous.

The proude haue layed a snare for me, & spred a net abroade wyth coardes, yea, and set trappes in my waye. Selah.

The proude haue dygged pyttes for me, which are not after thy lawe.

The proud ymagyn lyes vpon me, but I kepe thy commaundementes with my whole herte.

Azariah the sonne of Osaiah, & Iohanan the sonne of Kareah with al the proud personnes, sayde vnto Ieremy: Thou lyest, the Lord our God hath not sent the to speake vnto vs, that we shoulde not go into Egypt, and dwel there.

They that se the, shal narowly loke vpon the, and thinke in them selues, sayenge: Is thys the man, that brought all landes in feare, and made the kyngedomes afrayde.

And yet thou thoughtest in thyne herte: I wyll climme vp into heauen, and make my seate aboue the starres of God, I wyl syt vpon the glorious mounte toward the North,

O that my wayes were stablished to kepe thy statutes.

Now I knowe that the Lord is greater then al Gods, for bicause that they dealt proudly with them.

If it be so that thou stoppest my people that thou wylte not let them goo:

And that because hys mynde was not to do good. but persecuted the poore helplesse, and hym that was vexed at the harte, to slay hym.
