Psalm 1:1

Matthew's Bible 1537

O blessed is the man, that goeth not in the counsayll of the vngodly: that abydeth not in the waie of sinners and sitteth not in the seate of the scorneful.

He that goeth in the company of wyse men, shalbe wyse: but who so is a companyon of foles, shalbe hurte.

I dwell not amonge the scorners, nether is my delyte therin: but I dwell only in the feare of thy hand, for thou hast fylled me with bytternes.

But he sayde: Yea, happye are they that heare the worde of God, and kepe it.

For the Lorde aloweth the waye of the righteous, but the waye of the vngodly shal peryshe.

My sonne, walke not thou with them, refrayn thy fote from their ways.

O taste and se how frendly the Lorde is, blessed is the man that trusteth in hym.

Prayse the euerlastynge. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, and hath great delite in hys commaundementes.

He ymagineth mischief vpon his bedde he wil come in no good waye, nor refuse the thyng that is euel.

Lo there is vtterly no goodnesse in them, therfore wyll not I haue to do with the councell of the vngodly.

For thys cause take vnto you the armoure of God, that ye maye be able to resiste in the euyl daye, and stande perfect in al thinges.

In to theyr secrettes come not my soule, and vnto their congregacion be my honour not coupled: for in their wrath they slewe a man, and in theyr selfe wyll they houghed an oxe.

O blessed is the man, that putteth hys trust in the Lorde, and whose hope is the Lorde hym selfe.

Good vnderstanding geueth fauour, but hard is the way of the despisers.

Away fro me ye wycked, I will kepe the commaundementes of my God.

Blessed are they that allwaye kepe iudgement, and do ryghtuousnes.

My fote standeth right: I wyll prayse the (O Lorde) in the congregations.

That thou mayest be delyuered from the euell waye, & from the man that speaketh frowarde thinges

So I gaue them vp vnto their owne hertes luste, and let them folowe theyr owne ymaginacions.

But the waye of the vngodly is as the darcknes, wherin men fal, or thei be aware.

As for the scornefull, he shall laugh them to scorne, but he shal geue grace vnto the lowly.

Blessed are they that do his commaundementes that theyr power maye be in the tree of lyfe, & maye enter in thorowe the gates into the cite.

If thou be wyse thy wysdome shall do thy selfe good: but if thou thynckeste scorne therof, it shalbe thyne owne harme.

O Lorde God of Hostes, blessed is the man that putteth his truste in the.

by whom we haue a waye in thorowe fayeth vnto thys grace where in we stande & reioye in hope of the prayse that shalbe geuen of God.

Happy are the people that be in suche a case: yea, blessed are the people, whiche haue the Lord for their God.

Iesus sayd vnto hym: Thomas because thou hast sene me, therfore thou beleuest. Happye are they that haue not sene, and yet haue beleued.

O ye chyldren, how longe will ye loue chyldyshnesse? how long wil the, scorners delite in scorning & the vnwise be enemies vnto knowlege?

For it is sufficient for vs, that we haue spent the time that is past of the lyfe, after the wil of the Gentiles, walking in wantonnes, lustes, dronckennes, in eatinge, drinkinge & in abominable Idolatrie.

Yf ye vnderstande these thynges, happye are ye yf ye do then.

The Lorde careth for the straungers, he defendeth the fatherlesse and wydow: as for the way of the vngodly, he turneth it vpside doune.

Kysse the sonne, lest the Lorde be angrye and so ye peryshe from the ryght way. For his wrath shalbe kindled shortly: blessed are all they that put their trust in hym.

Blessed is he that hath the God of Iacob for his helpe, and whose hope is in the Lord hys God.

For it semed him a light thinge to walke in the synne of Ieroboam. But toke Iezabel the doughter of Ethbaal, kinge of the Sidonites to wyfe, and went & serued Baal and bowed vnto him.

Happye arte thou Israell, who is lyke vnto the? A people that arte saued by the Lord thy shyeld and helper & swerd of thy glory. And thyne enemyes shal hyde theym selues from the, and thou shalt walke vppon theyr hye hylles.

Punishmentes are ordeyned for the scornefull, and strypes for fooles backes.

Hide me from the gathering together of the frowarde, from the heape of wycked doers.

Thynkeste thou it well done, to oppresse me, to caste me of (beinge a worke of thy handes) and to manteyne the councell of the vngodly?
