Matthew's Bible 1537

And the preast shal set the wife before the Lorde and vncouer her head, and put the memorial of the offering in her handes whiche is the ielousye offeryng, & the preast shal haue bytter and cursyng water in hys hand, and he shal coniure her & shal saye vnto her.

Let wedlocke be had in pryce in all poyntes, and let the chambre be vndefyled: for whorekepers and aduouterers God wyll iudge.

If the woman be not couered, let her also be shoren. If it be shame for a woman to be shorne or shauen let her couer her head.

Thyne owne wickednesse shall reproue the, and thy turnynge awaye shal condemne the: that thou maiest know and vnderstand, how euyl and hurtful a thinge it is, that thou hast forsaken thy Lorde thy God, and not feared him, sayeth the Lorde God of Hostes.

Then sayde Samuel: Bryng ye hyther to me Agag the Kynge of the Amaleckytes. And Agag came vnto hym delycately. And Agag said: truly the bytternesse of death cometh on. And Samuel sayde:

Lest there be among you man or woman kynred or trybe, that turneth away in hys hert thys day from the Lord our God, to go and serue the goddes of these nacions: & lest there be amonge you some roote that beareth gall and wormwod,

in this bitter cursing water goo in to the bowels of the, that thy bely swel and thy thygh rotte, and the wyfe shal say Amen Amen.

and let him take holy water in an erthen vessel & of the dust that is in the floore of the habitacyon, and put it in to the water.

Then let her husband brynge her vnto the Preast and brynge an offeryng for her: the tenthe parte of an Epha of barly meele, but shall poure none oyle thereunto, nor put franckencens theron: for it is an offeryng of ielousye, and an offerynge that maketh remembraunce of synne.

And the leper in whome the plage is, shall haue his clothes rent & his heede bare & hys mouth moffeld, & shalbe called vncleane.

yf he haue longe heyr, & prayse to a woman, yf she haue longe heyre? For her heyre is geuen her to couer her wythall.

If no man haue lyen wyth the nether haste gone asyde, and defyled thy selfe behynd thy husbande, then haue thou no harme of thys bytter cursyng water.
