Numbers 14:3

Matthew's Bible 1537

Wherfore hath the Lorde brought vs vnto thys lande to fall vpon the swerde, that both oure wyues, and also our chyldren shoulde be a praye? is it not better that we retourne vnto Egypt agayne?

They bende theyr tunges lyke bowes, to shute oute lyes. As for the trueth, they may nothynge awaye with all in the worlde. For they go from one wyckednes to another, & hold nothinge of me, sayeth the Lorde.

O how ofte haue they greued hym in the wyldernesse? How many a tyme haue they prouoked hym in the deserte?

to whom our fathers woulde not obey, but cast it from them, and in their hertes turned backe againe into Egipt,

and sayd vnto them. The Lorde loke vnto you and iudge, for ye haue made the fauour of vs stynke in the syght of Pharao, and of his seruauntes, and haue put a swerd into their handes to slea vs.

& sayd vnto them: wolde to God we had dyed by the hand of the Lorde in the lande of Egypte, when we sat by the fleshpottes, & eate bred our belyes ful, for ye haue brought vs out into this wyldernesse to kyl thys holy multitude for honger.

Semeth it a smale thynge vnto the, that thou hast brought vs out of a lande that floweth wyth mylke and hony, to kyl vs in the wyldernes. But that thou shouldest raygne ouer vs also?

And the people chode wt Moses & spake saying: wolde God that we had perished when our brethren perished before the Lord.

And the people spake against God and against Moses: wherfore hast thou brought vs oute of Egypte, for to dye in the wyldernes, for here is neither bread nor water, and our soules lotheth thys light bread.

Moreouer youre chyldren which ye sayd should be a praye, and youre sonnes which knowe nether good nor bad this day, they shal goo in thither & vnto them I wyl geue it, and they shal enioye it.

but euen a moneth longe, and vntyl it come oute at the nostrels of you, that ye be ready to parbrake: because that ye haue cast that Lorde asyde whyche is among you, and haue wepte before hym sayinge: why came we oute of Egypte.

and refused to heare, and were not myndefull of the wonders that thou dyddeste for them: but became obstynate & heady in so muche that they turned backe to theyr bondage in theyr disobedience. But thou my God forgauest, and wast gracyous, mercyfull, pacyente, and of greate goodnesse, and forsokest them not.

but will saye thus, we wil not dwell here, but go into Egypte: where we shall neyther se warre, heare the noyse of batel, nor suffre honger, there wil we dwel.

The Lorde forbiddeth you (O ye remnaunt of Iuda) that ye shal not go into Egipte. And forget not that I haue warned you earnestly this day,
