For of al those men which haue sene my glorye & my miracles which I did in Egypte & in the wyldernesse, & yet haue tempted me now this .x. tymes & haue not herkened vnto my voyce,

Lo, ten tymes haue ye reproued me: are ye not ashamed, for to laugh me so to scorne?

Then lyft he vp his hand against them to ouerthrowe them in the wildernes.

And your father hath deceyued me, & chaunged mi wages .x. times: but God suffred him not to hurt me.

And whan the people saw that it was long or Moses came down out of the mountaine, they gathered theym selues together and came vnto Aaron and sayd vnto him. Vp and make vs a God to goo before vs: for of thys Moises the felow that brought vs out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become.

And the people chode wyth Moses and sayde: geue vs water to drynke. And Moses sayde vnto them: why chyde ye wyth me, and wherfore do ye tempte the Lord?

where youre fathers tempted me, proued me, and sawe my workes .xl. yeares longe.

Neither let vs tempte Christe as some of them tempted, and were destroyed of serpentes.

But in manie of them had God no delite. For they were ouerthrowen in the wyldernes.

And Iesus said to him, it is written also: Thou shalt not tempt thy lord God.

Therfore maye we saye, that the proude are happye, and that they whiche deale with the vngodlynesse, are sette vp: for they tempte God, and yet escape.

A lust came vpon them in the wildernesse, so that they tempted God in the deserte.

And the Lorde sayde vnto Moses: Howe longe shall thys people rayle vpon me, & how long wyll it be yer they beleue me, for all my sygnes whiche I haue shewed amonge them?

Than sayde they vnto Moses? were there no graues for vs in Egypte, but thou muste brynge vs awaye for to dye in the wyldernesse? wherfore hast thou serued vs thus, for to carye vs out of Egypte?

Thus haue I bene .xx. yere in thy house, & serued the .xiiij. yeres for thy .ij. daughters and .vi. yere for thy shepe, & thou hast chaunged my rewarde .x. tymes.

and sayd vnto them. The Lorde loke vnto you and iudge, for ye haue made the fauour of vs stynke in the syght of Pharao, and of his seruauntes, and haue put a swerd into their handes to slea vs.

Then the people murmured agaynst Moses, sayinge: What shall we dryncke?

And the hole multitude of the chyldren of Israel murmured agaynst Moses & Aaron in the wyldernesse,

There the people thyrsted for water, and murmured agaynst Moses & sayde: wherfore hast thou brought vs out of Egypte, to kyll vs and oure chyldren & oure catel with thyrste?

And he called the name of the place: Massa and Meriba: because of the chydynge of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lorde saynge: is the Lorde amog vs or not?

And the people complayned & it displeased the eares of the Lorde. And when the lord heard it he was wroth, and the fyre of the Lorde burnt amonge them and consumed the vttermost of the hoste.

And the rascall people that was amonge them fell a lustynge. And the chyldren of Israel also went to and wepte and sayde: who shal geue vs flesh to eate?

And Myriam & Aaron spake agaynst Moses, because of hys wyfe of Inde which he had taken: for he had taken to wife one of Inde.

and all the chyldren of Israell murmured agaynst Moses and Aaron. And the whole congregacion sayde vnto them: wolde God that we had dyed in the land of Egypt, eyther we wold that we had dyed in thys wyldernesse.

Remembre & forget not how thou prouokedest the lord thy God in the wildernes: for sence the day that thou camest out of the land of Egipt vntil ye came vnto this place, ye haue rebelled against the Lorde.

They turned backe, and tempted God, & moued the holy one in Israel.

whiche in all wysdome and matters of vnderstandynge, that he enquered of them, founde them ten tymes better then all the sothsayers and charmers, that were in all hys realme.

saue Caleb the sonne of Iephune the Kenesite, & Iosua the sonne of Nun, for they haue folowed me continually,

They are lyke, as yf thou vnderstodest moch, & keptest nothyng: or yf one herde well, but were not obedient.
