Numbers 14:2

Matthew's Bible 1537

and all the chyldren of Israell murmured agaynst Moses and Aaron. And the whole congregacion sayde vnto them: wolde God that we had dyed in the land of Egypt, eyther we wold that we had dyed in thys wyldernesse.

Then the people murmured agaynst Moses, sayinge: What shall we dryncke?

And on the morrowe all the multitude of the chyldren of Israell murmured agaynste Moses and Aaron sayinge: ye haue kylled the people of the Lorde.

There the people thyrsted for water, and murmured agaynst Moses & sayde: wherfore hast thou brought vs out of Egypte, to kyll vs and oure chyldren & oure catel with thyrste?

These are murmurers, complayners, walkyng after theyr owne iustes, whose mouthes speake proud thinges. They haue men in great reuerence because of vauntage.

Neyther murmure ye as some of them murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

And when the Sunne was vp God prepared a feruent east wynde: and the Sunne bett ouer the head of Ionas, that he faynted agayne, and wisshed vnto hys soule, that he myght dye, and sayde: It is better for me to dye, then to lyue.

And now O Lord, take my lyfe fro me (I beseche the) for I had rather dye then lyue.

Yea, they thought scorne of that pleasaunt lande, and gaue no credence vnto hys worde

and murmured in youre tentes and sayde: because the Lord hateth vs, therfore he hath broughte vs out of the lande of Egypte, to delyuer vs into the handes of the Amorites and to destroye vs.

Wherfore yf thou deale thus with me, kyl me, I pray the, If I haue found fauoure in thy syght and let me not se my wrechednesse.

And the people complayned & it displeased the eares of the Lorde. And when the lord heard it he was wroth, and the fyre of the Lorde burnt amonge them and consumed the vttermost of the hoste.

He thought vpon hys couenaunt, and pytyed them, accordyng vnto the multytude of hys mercyes.

Alas, why dyed I not in the byrth? Why dyd not I perysh, as sone as I came oute of my mothers wombe?

And he went a dayes iourney into the wildernesse, and when he was come sat doune vnder a Ginaper tree, and desyred for his soule, that he myght dye, and saide, it is nowe ynough O Lorde, take my soule, for I am no better then my fathers.

For some, when they hearde, rebelled, how be it not al that came out of Egypte vnder Moyses.

we remembre the fysh whych we should eate in Egypt for noughte and of the Cucumbers and melouns, lekes, onyouns and garleke.

And al the multitude cryed out, and the people wepte thorowe out that nyght,

For of al those men which haue sene my glorye & my miracles which I did in Egypte & in the wyldernesse, & yet haue tempted me now this .x. tymes & haue not herkened vnto my voyce,

Semeth it a smale thynge vnto the, that thou hast brought vs out of a lande that floweth wyth mylke and hony, to kyl vs in the wyldernes. But that thou shouldest raygne ouer vs also?

And the people chode wt Moses & spake saying: wolde God that we had perished when our brethren perished before the Lord.

Whi haue ye brought the congregation of the Lord vnto this wildernes that both we & our cattel should dye here?

And the people spake against God and against Moses: wherfore hast thou brought vs oute of Egypte, for to dye in the wyldernes, for here is neither bread nor water, and our soules lotheth thys light bread.

But murmured in their tentes, and herkened not vnto the voyce of the Lord.

Than sayde they vnto Moses? were there no graues for vs in Egypte, but thou muste brynge vs awaye for to dye in the wyldernesse? wherfore hast thou serued vs thus, for to carye vs out of Egypte?

And Moses spake vnto the chyldren of Israel, and al the princes gaue him for euery prynce ouer theyr fathers houses, a rod: euen .xij. rods, and the rod of Aaron was among the roddes.

Moreouer there was no water for the multitude, wherefore they gathered them selues togyther againste Moses and againste Aaron.

yea, and when the Lord sent you from Cades Barne saying: go vp & conquere the lande whych I haue geuen you, ye disobeyed the mouth of the Lord your God & neither beleued hym, nor herkened to hys voice.
