And the people came to Moses and sayed: we haue sinned, for we haue spoken agayust the Lord and againste the, make intercession to the lorde, that he take away the serpentes from vs. And Moses made intercession for the people.
Knoweledge youre fautes one to another; and praye one for another, that ye maye be healed. The prayer of a ryghtuous man auayleth muche yf it be feruente.
If any man se his brother synne a synne that is not vnto death, let him axe, and he shal geue him lyfe, for them that synne not vnto death. There is a synne vnto death, for which saye I not that a man shoulde praye.
and sayde vnto Ieremye the Prophet: O heare our peticion, that thou mayest pray for vs vnto the Lord thy God, and for the remnaunt, whereof there be very few left of manye, as thou seyst vs,
Neuerthelesse Zedekiah the Kynge sent Iehucal the sonne of Selemiah and Sophoniah the sonne of Maasiah the pryeste to the Prophet Ieremy, sayinge: O praye thou vnto the lord oure God for vs.
Then spake the Lorde vnto me, & sayde: Though Moses and Samuel stode before me, yet haue I no herte to thys people. Dryue them awaye, that they maye go out of my syght.
The Lorde thy God (no doute) hath well consydered the wordes of Rabsakeh, whom hys lorde the Kynge of the Assyrians hath sent, to defye & blaspheme the lyuynge God: with soch wordes as the Lord thy God hath heard right well. And therfore lyfte vp thy prayer for the remnaunt, that yet are left.
So he sayde he wuld haue destroyed them had not Moses hys chosen stand before him in that gappe: to turne awaye his wrathfull indignatyon, lest he should destroy them.
& said: If I haue found grace in thy sight, O Lorde, then let my Lorde go wyth vs (for it is a stubburne people) & haue mercy vpon our wickednes & our sinne, and let vs be thyne enheritaunce.
