Reioyce & be glad, for great is your reward in heauen. For so persecuted they the prophetes which were before your dayes.

Reioyse then, and be glad: for behold your reward is great in heauen. After this maner their father entreated the prophetes.

My brethren, count it excedyng ioye when ye fal into dyuers temptacyons,

for as muche as ye know that of the Lorde ye shall receiue the reward of inheritaunce, for ye serue the Lorde Christ.

but reioice in as much as ye are partakers of Christes passions, that when his glory appereth, ye maye be mery and glad.

Nowe ioye I in my sufferinges which I suffer for you, and fulfyll that whiche is behinde of the passions of Christe in my fleshe for his bodies sake, which is the congregacion,

Nether do we so only: but also we reioice in tribulacion. For we know that tribulation bryngeth pacience,

The Lord quite thy worck, & a full reward be geuen the of the Lord God of Israel vnto whom thou art come, to truste vnder hys winges.

So that men shall saye, verelye there is a rewarde for the righteous: doutles, there is a God that iudgeth the earth.

Then shall they saye. O happye are the godly, for they maye enioye the frutes of theyr studyes.

The labour of the vngodly prospereth not, but he that soweth righteousnes, shal receyue a sure rewarde.

But they mocked the messengers of God & despised theyr wordes & mysse vsed his prophetes, vntyll the wrath of the Lord so arose agaynst hys people that it was past remeadie.

For the sonne of man shall come in the glorye of hys father, wyth hys aungels: & then shall he rewarde euery man accordyng to his dedes.

but wythout fayth it is vnpossybleto please hym. For he that cometh to God muste beleue that God is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seke hym.

Which as they kylled the Lorde Iesus and theyr owne prophetes, euen so haue they persecuted vs, and God they please not, and are contrarye to all men,

Yea, and though I be offered vp vpon the offeringe and sacrifyce of youre fayth: I reioyce, and reioyce wyth you al.

Was it not tolde my Lorde, what I dyd, when Iezabel slue the Prophetes of the Lorde how I hydde an hundred of the Lordes Prophetes, fyfty in one caue and as many in another, & prouyded them of breade and water?

For oure excedynge trybulation whiche is momentanye and lyghte, prepareth an excedynge and eternall wayghte of glory vnto vs,

And they departed from the counsel, reioysinge that they were counted worthy, to suffer rebuke for his name.

Moreouer when ye fast, be not sad as the hipocrites are. For they disfygure their faces, that they myght be sene of men how they fast. Verely I say vnto you, they haue their rewarde.

He that planteth and he that wathereth, are neither better then the other. Euerye man yet shall receyue hys rewarde accordynge to hys laboure.

Wherfore, loue ye your enemyes, do good and lende, lokinge for nothynge againe, and your rewarde shall be greate, and ye shalbe the children of the hyest for he is kinde vnto the vnkinde and to the euyll.

After these dedes, the worde of God, came vnto Abram in a vision sayinge: Feare not Abram, I am thy shyld, and thy rewarde shall be exceadynge greate.

Neuerthelesse they were disobedient, & rebelled against the, and caste thy lawe behynde their backes, and slewe thy Prophetes (which exhorted them so earnestlye, that they shulde conuerte vnto the) and dyd greate blasphemyes.

At mydnyght Paule and Sylas prayed, & lauded God. And the prysoners hearde them.

O Hierusalem, Hierusalem, whiche killest Prophetes, and stonest them that are sent to the: howe often woulde I haue gathered thy chyldren together, as the hen gathered her neste vnder her wynges, but ye would not.

It is but lost laboure, that I smyte youre children, for they receyue not my correccyon. Youre owne swearde destroyeth youre Prophetes, lyke a deuourynge lyon.

These thy seruaunt kepeth, & for kepynge of them there is great reward.

Whervpon Asa was wrothe with the sear and put hym in the conuertynge house, for he was dyspleased wyth him because of that. Moreouer Aza oppressed certayne of the people the same ceason.

in so muche that when Iezabel destroyed the Prophetes of the Lorde, he toke an hundred of the Prophetes and hyd them, fyftye in one caue, and fyftye in another, and prouyded breade and water for them.

Nowe when he had spoken oute all the wordes, that the Lorde commaunded hym to preach vnto all the people, then the Priestes, the Prophetes, and all the people toke holde vpon him, and sayde: thou shalte dye.

And the kynge of Israell sayde to Iehosaphat: there is yet one, by whome we maye aske counsel of the Lorde, one Micheah the sonne of Iemlah. But I hate hym: for he neuer prophesyeth good vnto me, but euyl. And Iehosaphat sayde: let not the kinge saye so.

And Ahab sayd to Eliah: hast thou founde me thine enemy at any time? and he saide: ye, because thou art vtterly geuen to worcke wyckednesse in the syghte of the lord.

and estemed the rebuke of Christe greater ryches then the treasure of Egypte. For he had respect vnto the reward.

Then the kynge sent vnto him a capitayne, ouer fyfty with his fyftye. And when the captayne was come to him: beholde, he sat on the toppe of an hyl. And the captayne sayde vnto him: man of God, the kinge biddeth the come doune.

Then Iezabel sent a messenger vnto Eliah sayinge: so do God to me and so therto, except I make thy soule lyke one of theirs, by to morow this tyme:

Then sayde Ieremy: It is not so, I go not to the Caldees. Neuertheles Ieriah woulde not beleue him, but brought Ieremy bounde before the Prynces.

For vnto you it is geuen, that not onely ye should beleue on Christ, but also suffre for his sake,

For ye suffered also wyth my bondes, and toke in worth the spoyllyng of your gootes, & that wyth gladnes, knowynge in youre selues howe that ye had in heauen a better & an endurynge substaunce.

which thorowe fayth subdued kingdomes wrought ryghtuousnes, obtayned the promyses, stopped the mouthes of Lyons,

Take (my brethren) the Prophetes for an ensample of sufferyng aduersitye, & of longe pacience, whiche spake in the name of the Lorde.
