When he sawe many of the Phariseis & of the Saduces come to his baptisme, he sayd vnto them: O generacion of vipers, who hath taught you to fle from the vengaunce to come?

O generation of vipers, how can ye say well, when ye your selues are euil? For of the aboundaunce of the herte, the mouth speaketh.

and for to loke for hys sonne from heauen, whom he raised from death. I meane Iesus which deliuered vs from wrath to come.

As it is written: the iust shal liue by faith. For the wrath of God appeareth from heauen agaynste all vngodlynesse and vnryghtuousnes of men, whiche wythholde the trueth in vnryghtuousnes,

Ye serpentes and generacion of vppers howe shoulde ye scape the damnacion of hell?

Much more then now (seing we are iustified in hys bloud) shall we be saued from wrath thorowe hym.

The same day the Saduces came to hym (which say that there is no resurreccion) axed him

Then Iesus sayd vnto them: Take hede and beware of the leuen of the Phariseis and of the Saduces.

In this are the chyldren of God knowen, and the chyldren of the deuil. Whosoeuer doth not rightuousnes, is not of God, neyther he that loueth not his brother.

And some of the Pharises whiche were with him, hearde these wordes, and sayde vnto hym: are we then blynde?

Flye awaye from Babylon, euery man saue hys lyfe. Let no man holde hys tonge to her wyckednes, for the tyme of the Lordes vengeaunce is come, yea he shall rewarde her agayne.

But vnto whome shall I speake, whome shall I warne that he maye take hede? Theyr eares are so vncircumcyced, that they maye not heare. Beholde, they take the worde of God but for a scorne, & haue no luste therto.

By faythe Noe honoured God, after that he was warned of thynges whiche were not sene, and prepared the arcke to the sauynge of hys housholde, thorow the whiche arcke, he condemned the worlde, and became heyre of the rightuousnes that commeth by faythe.

whyche knew me from the beginninge if they woulde testyfye it. For after the most strayteste secte of oure laye, lyued I a phariseye,

Therfore awake & remember, that by the space of .iij. yeares I ceased not to warne euerye one of you both night and daye with teares.

Then arose there vp certayne that were of the secte of the Pharises which dyd beleue, saying, that it was nedefull, to circumcyse them and to enioyne them to kepe the lawe of Moyses.

Then the chiefe Prieste arose vp & al they that were with hym (which is the seete of the Saduces) and were full of indignacion,

Ye are of youre father the deuyl, and the lustes of your father ye wyll do. He was a murtherer from the begynnyng, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truthe in hym. When he speaketh a lye, then speaketh he of hys owne. For he is a lyar, and the father therof.

And they which were sent, were of the pharyseis.

The Pharyse stode and prayed thus with hym selfe: God I thanke the, that I am not as other men are, extorsioners, vniust, aduouterers, or as this publican,

All these thynges hearde the phariseis also which were couetous, and they mocked hym.

But the Phariseis and scribes despised the counsel of God againste them selues, and were not baptysed of him.

Then came the Saduces vnto hym, which saye: there is no resurreccyon, and they axed hym, sayinge:

And they sente vnto hym certayne of the Pharyseis with Herodes seruauntes to take hym in hys wordes.

And he charged them sayng: Take hede of the leuen of the Phariseis, & of the leuen of Herode.

When the Pharises had hearde, how that he had put the Saduces to silence, they drewe together,

Then went the pharises and toke counsell how they myght tangle hym in hys wordes.

But when the Pharyseis hearde that they sayde: This felowe driueth the deuils no nother wyse out but by the helpe of Belzebub the chiefe of the deuils.

For I say vnto you except your rightuousnes excede, the rightuousnes of the scribes & phariseis, ye can not entre into the kingdom of heauen.

They brede cockatrice egges, and weue the spyders webbe Who so eateth of their egges, dyeth. But yf one treade vpon them, there commeth vp a serpent.

Moreouer, I wyll put hatred betwene the & the woman, & betwene thy seed and her seed. And that seed shall tread the on thy heed, and thou shalt treade it on the hele.

that by two immutable thynges (in which it was vnpossyble that GOD shaulde lye) we myghte haue perfecte consolacyon, whiche haue fled, for to holde faste the hope that is set before vs,

Then came hys disciples, and sayde vnto hym: Perceyuest thou not, how that the Phariseis are offended in hearing thys saying?

They that forsake the lawe, prayse the vngodly: but such as kepe the law abhorre them.

Then came the Phariseis and Saduceis, and dyd tempte hym, desiring hym to shew them some signe from heauen.
