For marck, the day commeth, that shall burne as an ouen: and al the proude, yea and al such as do wickednesse, shalbe straw: and the daye that is for to come, shall burne them vp (sayeth the Lorde of hostes) so that it shall leaue them neyther rote nor braunche.
Let both growe together tyl haruest come, & in tyme of haruest, I wyl saye to the reapers, gather ye fyrst the tares, & bynde theym in shewes too be brent: but gather the wheate into my barne.
Which hath his fanne in his hande, and wyll purge his floore, and wyll gather the corne into his barne, but the chaffe wil he burne with fyre that neuer shalbe quenched.
Thou shalt fanne them, & the wynde shall carye them awaye, and the whyrlwynde shall scater them. But thou shalt reioyse in the Lorde, and shalt delyte in praysinge the holy one of Israel.
And therfore thus saith the Lorde God: beholde, my wrath and my indignacyon shalbe poured out vpon this place, vpon men & catel vpon the trees in the felde & all frute of the lande, and it shall burne so, that no man maye quenche it.
I will scatre the abrode with fanne no euery side of the lande: I wyll waste my people and destroye them, for they haue had no luste to turne from their owne wayes.
But yf ye wyll not be obedyent vnto me, to halow the Sabboth, so that ye will beare youre burthens thorow the gates of Ierusalem vpon the Sabboth: Then shall I set fyre vpon the gates of Ierusalem, and it shall burne vp the houses of Ierusalem, and no man shall be able to quench it.
For thoughe so manye people increase as the flowynge waters, and though they be armed yet they fle farre of, and vanyshe awaye lyke the dust with the winde vpon an hill, and as the whirle winde thorow a storme.
Therfore lyke as fyre lycketh vp the straw & as the flamme consumeth the stubble: Euen so (when theyr rote is full) theyr blossome shall vanyshe awaye lyke duste or smoke: for they despyse the lawe of the Lorde of Hostes, and blaspheme the worde of the holye maker of Israel.
And as for the glorye of these thynges, it shalbe turned to drye straw, and he that made them to a sparke. And they shall both burne together, so that no man shalbe able to quenche them.
For lo thys I promyse: though I syfte the house of Israell amonge all nacyons (like as they vse to lyfte in a syue) yet shall not the smallest grauell stone fall vpon the earth:
Therfore they shalbe as the morning cloud, & as the dew that early passeth away, & lyke as dust that the wynde taketh awaye from the floure, and as smoke that goeth oute of the chymney.
Then shall it be sayde to the people & to Ierusalem: There commeth a warm wind from the North thorow the waye of my people, but nether to fanne, nor to clense.
And they shall go forth and loke vpon the carions of them, that haue transgressed against me. For their wormes shall not dye, neyther shall their fyre be quenched, and al fleshe shall abhorre them.
Iohn aunswered and sayde to them all: I baptyse you with water, but a stronger then I cometh after me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to vnlouse: he wyll baptyse you with the holye ghost, and with fyre.
As for the wheate he gryndeth it to make breade thereof In as muche as he can not brynge it to passe with treadynge oute. For nether the brosyng that the carte wheles make, nor hys beastes can grynde it.
