Then the pharyseis went out, and held a counsel against him, how they might destroy hym.

& sayde. O full of all subteltie and disseytfulnes the chylde of the deuyll, and the enemye of all ryghteousnes, thou ceasest not to peruerte the strayghte wayes of the Lorde.

The kynges of the earth stande vp, and the rulers are come to gether, agaynste the Lorde and agaynste hys anoynted.

The same dealt subtely wyth oure kynred, & euyll intreated oure fathers, and made them to caste out theyr yonge chyldren, that they should not remayne aliue.

Ye serpentes and generacion of vppers howe shoulde ye scape the damnacion of hell?

Bvt the serpent was sutyller than al the beastes of the felde, whych the Lord God had made: & sayd vnto the woman: yea hath God sayd in dede, ye shall not eate of al maner trees in the garden?

But I feare leste as the serpente begyled Eue thorowe hys suttelty, euen so youre wyttes shoulde be corrupte from the synglenes that is in Christe.

After two dayes folowed easter and the dayes of swete breade. And the hye priestes and the scrybes soughte meanes howe they myght take hym by crafte, and put hym to death.

From that daye forth they helde a counsell together, for to put hym to death.

Laye no preuy waite wyckedly vpon the house of the rightuous, and disquiete not his resting place.
