The kynges of the earth stande vp, and the rulers are come to gether, agaynste the Lorde and agaynste hys anoynted.

For lo, they lye wayting for my soule: the mighty men are gathered together agaynste me, withoute any offence or faulte of me, O Lorde.

Consydre therfore how that he endureth such speakyng agaynst him of synners least ye should be weryed and faynte in youre myndes.

For why, I herde so many derisyons and blasphemies, yee euen of myne owne companions, and of soch as were conuersaunte with me: whiche wente aboute, to make me afrayed, sayinge, vpon hym, let vs go vpon him to feare hym and make hym holde his tonge: that we maye ouer come hym, and be auenged of hym.

Then sayde they: come, let vs ymagyn smothynge agaynst this Ieremy. Yee thys dyd euen the prestes, to whom the lawe was commytted: the Senatours, that were the wysest, and the prophetes, whiche wanted not the worde of God. Come (sayde they) lett vs cut out hys tunge, & let vs not regarde his wordes.

suche as laboure to drawe men vnto synne: & that dysceyue hym, whiche reproueth them in the gate, and such as turne good personnes to vanite.

They haue layed a net for my fete, and pressed doune my soule: they haue dygged a pytte before me, and are fallen into it them selues. Selah.

Though he came in to se, yet meaned he falsede in his hert, heapyng myscheyfe vpon hym selfe.

Then the pharyseis went out, and held a counsel against him, how they might destroy hym.

This speake I for youre profite, not to tangel you in a snare, but for that whiche is honeste and comely vnto you, and that ye maye quietly cleaue vnto the Lorde without separacion.
