For Herode feared Iohan, knowinge that he was a iust man and an holy: and gaue him reuerence: and when he hearde hym, he did many thynges, and heard him gladly.

He was a burninge and a shyninge lyght and ye woulde for a season haue reioysed in his lyght:

And they wente aboute to laye handes on hym, but they feared the people, because they toke hym as a Prophete.

And when he would haue put him to deth, he feared the people, because they counted hym as a Prophet.

and the hye pryestes and scribes sought how to kyl hym, but they feared the people.

And the hye priestes and the scrybes the same houre wente aboute to laye handes on him, but they feared the people. For they perceiued that he had spoken thys similitude against them.

But and yf we shall saye of men, all the people wyll stone vs. For they be perswaded that Iohn is a Prophet.

And they wente aboute to take hym. But they feared the people. For they perceyued that he spake that similitude agaynste them. And they lefte hym.

But yf we shall saye, of men, then feare we the people. For al men counted Iohn that he was a very Prophet.

For when wilt thou be abashed or fear seinge: thou hast broken thy promise, and remembrest not me, neyther hast me in thyne herte? Thinkest thou, that I also will holde my peace (as a fore tyme) that thou fearest me not?

And the people sayd: this is Iesus the prophet of Nazareth a citie of Galile.

The baptisme of Iohn whence was it: from heauen or of men? Then they reasoned amonge themselues, sayinge: yf we shall saye from heauen, he wyll laye vnto vs: why dyd ye not then beleue hym?

And they answered Iesus and sayed: we cannot tell. And he lykewyse sayd vnto them: neyther tell I you by what authoritie I do these thynges.
