And thou Bethleem Ephrata, art lytle among the thousandes of Iuda, Out of the shall come vnto me, whyche shall be the gouernoure in Israell: whose out goinge hath bene from the begynnyge, and from euerlastynge.
And it fortuned, assone as the aungels were gone awaye from them into heauen, the shepherdes sayed one to another: let vs go euen vnto Bethleem & se this thing that is happened which the Lorde hath shewed vnto vs.
Ther was in the dayes of Herode kynge of Iurye, a certaine prieste named Zacharias, of the course of Abaia. And his wyfe was of the doughters of Aaron and her name was Elizabeth.
Hys substaunce was .vij.M. shepe .iij.M. camels .v.C. youck of oxen .v.C. she asses, & a very greate housholde: so that he was one of the moste principall men amonge all them of the east countre.
When the mornynge came, hys sprete was troubled. And he sent and called for all the sothesayers of Egypte & al the wyse men therof, and tolde them his dreame: but there was none of them that coulde interpretate it vnto Pharao.
Then Herode perceauing that he was mocked of the wyse men, was excedinge wroth, & sent forth and slue al the children that were in Bethleem, and in all the costes therof, as many as were two yere olde and vnder according to the time which he had diligently searched out of the wise men.
