When the Pharisei sawe that he marueyled that he had not fyrste weshed before dyner.

And when they sawe certayne of hys disciples eate breade with commen handes (that is to say wt vnwashen handes) they complayned.

Beware least anye man come and spoyle you thorowe philosophie and disceitful vanitie, thorowe the tradicions of men, and ordinaunces after the world, and not after Christ.

For as muche as ye know howe that ye were not redemed wyth corruptyble syluer and golde, from youre vayne conuersacyon whiche ye receyued by the tradicyons of the fathers:

Then axed hym the Phariseis and Scribes, why walke not thy disciples accordynge to the tradicions of the elders, but eate breade with vnwashen handes?

He aunswered sayd vnto them: why do ye also transgresse the commaundement of God thorow your tradicions?

and preuayled in the Iewes lawe, aboue many of my companyons, which were of myne own nacyon, & was a much more feruent mayntayner of the tradicions of the elders.

Then the kinges seruauntes whiche were in the kinges gate, sayde vnto Mardocheus: why transgressest thou the kynges commaundement?
