For this people hertes are waxed grosse, and their eares were dull of hearynge, and their eyes haue they closed, lest they should se with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and shoulde vnderstand with their hertes, & should tourne that I myght heale them.

Then they gaue a shut wyth a loude voice, and stopped their eares, and ranne vpon hym al at once,

Their herte is as fat as brawne, but my delyte is in thy law.

In the middes of the strete of it, and of eyther syde of the ryuer was the wode of lyfe: which bare .xij. maner of frutes: & gaue frute euerye moneth: and the leaues of the wodde serued to heale the people wythall.

Repent ye therfore and turne, that youre synnes maye be done awaye. When the tyme of refreshing commeth, which we shall haue of the presence of the Lorde,

O (yf they wolde do thys) I shulde heale theyr sores: yea wyth al my herte wolde I loue them: so that my wrath shuld cleane be turned awaye from them.

Beholde (saieth the Lorde) I will heale their woundes, and make them whole: I wyll open them the treasure of peace and trueth.

But yf I may se his right way againe, I make hym whole, I lede him and restore him vnto them, whome he maketh ioyfull, and that were sorye for him.

The kepyng of dust, and folishnesse of herte hath turned them asyde: so that none of them can haue a fre conscience to thyncke maye not I erre?

O ye shrinkynge chyldren, turne agayne, (sayinge: lo, we are thyne, for thou arte the Lorde oure God:) And so shall I heale your bacturnynges.

Amonge all thynges lyuinge, man hath the moste disceytfull and vnsercheable herte. Who shall then knowe it?

saiyng: Yf thou haddest knowen those thynges which belong vnto thy peace, euen at thys thy tyme. But now are they hydde from thyne eyes.

For the hert of this people is waxed grosse and their eares were thicke of hearinge, and theyr eyes haue they closed: lest they should se with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and vnderstande with their hertes, and should be conuerted, and I should heale them.

He that wyncketh wyth his eyes, ymagineth mischife: and he that byteth his lyppes wyll do some harme.
