What shall it profite a man, if he shoulde wynne all the worlde, and lowse his owne soule?

What shall it proffet a man though he shoulde wynne al the whole world if he loose hys awne soule? Or els what shall a man geue to redeme his soule agayne withall?

For he shall cary nothynge away wyth hym when he dyeth, neither shall his pompe folowe hym.

For what auauntageth it a man to winne the whole worlde if he lose him selfe, or runne in damage of him selfe.

What fruit had ye then in those thynges, where of ye are nowe ashamed. For the ende of those thynges is deathe.

Ye haue sayed. Is it but lost labour, to serue God? What profyt haue we for keping his commaundementes, and for walkinge humbly before the Lorde of Hostes?

Sathan answered the Lorde, and sayde: Skynne for skynne? yee a man will geue all that euer he hath, for his lyfe.

May a man be compared vnto God in wysdome, though he seme to hym selfe, for to be lyke him?

For whosoeuer wil saue his lyfe. shall lowse it. But whosoeuer shal lowse his life for my sake and the gospels: the same shall saue it.

or els what shall a man geue, to redeme his soule agayne?
