Yf thy father mysse me, then saye: Dauid asked leaue of me, that he myght go to Bethlehem to hys owne cytye, for there is holden a yearely feast for all his kinne.

And her neyghbours gaue it a name sayinge: there is a childe borne to Noemi, and called it Obed: he is the father of Isai, the father of Dauid.

And al the people that were in the gate, & the elders said: we are witnesses: the Lorde make the woman that is come into thine house lyke Rahel & Lea, which twayne dyd builde the house of Israel: that she maye do vertuously in Ephrathah, & be famouse in Bethlehem,

And beholde, Booz came from Bethlehem, and sayde vnto the harueste men: the Lorde be wyth you. And they answered him, the Lord blesse the.

And Nathanael said to him: Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saide to him: come and se.

And Saul said to him: whose sonne art thou, thou lad? And Dauid answered the sonne of thy seruaunt Isai the Bethlehemite.

And this Dauid was the sonne of an Ephrathite of Bethlehem Iuda, named Isai, whyche Isai had eyght sonnes. And was an olde man in the daies of Saul among the people.

And Samuel dyd as the Lorde bad him. And when he came to Bethlehem, the elders of the towne were astonyed at hys coming, and sayde: Betokeneth thy comynge peace?

And so they went both together vntyll they came to Bethlehem. And when they were come to Bethlehem, it was noysed thorow al the cyty and the wemen sayde: is not this Noemi?

And after I came from Mesopotamia, Rahel dyed vpon my hand in the land of Canaan, by the waye: when I had but a feldes brede to goo vnto Ephrat. And I buried her there in the waye to Ephrat whyche is nowe called Bethlehem.

And thus died Rahel & was buried in the way to Ephrath which nowe is called Bethlehem.

While he thus thought, behold the Aungel of the Lord appered vnto him in a dreame, sainge: Ioseph thou sonne of Dauid. fear not to take vnto the Mary thy wife. For that which is conceyued in her is of the holye Ghost.

And euerye man wente into his owne citye to be taxed.
