And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hipocrites are. For they loue to stande and praye in the sinagoges, and in the corners of the stretes, and because they wolde be seane of men. Verely I say vnto you, they haue their rewarde.

because thou art ryche and increased wyth goodes, and hast nede of nothinge, and knowest not howe thou art wretched and miserable, poore, blind and naked.

Yf thou comest nye them, they saye, touch me not, for I am holyer then thou. All these men when I am angry, shalbe turned to smoke and fyre, that shall burne for euer.

Yet darrest thou saye: I am giltlesse: Tush, his wrath can not come vpon me. Beholde, I will reason with the because thou darrest say: I haue not offended.

And when ye stande, and pray, forgeue, yf ye haue any thyng agaynst any man, that youre father also which is in heauen, may forgeue you your trespasses.

For as many as are vnder the dedes of the lawe, are vnder malediccyon. For it is wrytten: cursed is euery man that contynueth not in all thynges, whiche are wrytten in the boke of the law, to fulfyll them.

whiche deuoure wydowes houses, & that vnder a coloure of long praying: the same shall receyue greater damnacion.

O ye iudges, ye geue sentence for gyftes: O ye preastes, ye teach for lucre: O ye Prophetes, ye prophecy for monye. Yet wyll they be taken as those that holde vpon God, and saye: Is not the Lorde amonge vs? Tushe, there can no mysfortune happen vs.

These come vnto the, after the maner of a great people: yea my people syt doune before the, and heare thy wordes, but they do not there after: for in theyr mouthes they shewe them selues, as though they were feruent, but their herte goeth after theyr owne couetous lucre.

I shal answere them: Where are now thy Goddes, that thou hast made the? byd them stande vp, & helpe the in the time of nede? For loke how many cityes thou hast (O Iuda) so many Goddes hast thou also.

For they seke me daylye and wyll knowe my waies, euen as it were a people that did right & had not forsaken the statutes of their God. They argue with me concerninge right iudgement, and wil pleate at the lawe with their God.

Ye that stande in the house of the Lorde, in the courtes of the house of our God.

The song of the steares Behold, O praise the Lord, al ye seruantes of the Lorde, ye that by night stande in the house of the Lord.

and as concerning feruentnes, I persecuted the congregation, & as touching the ryghtuousnes, whiche is in the lawe, I was vnrebukeable.

Though ye holde oute your handes, yet turne I myne eyes from you. And though ye make manye prayers, yet heare I nothynge at all, for youre handes are full of bloude.

Many there be that are called good doers, but whereshal one fynde a true faythful man?

The generacion that thynke them selfes cleane, shall not be clensed from their filthynesse.

For I say vnto you except your rightuousnes excede, the rightuousnes of the scribes & phariseis, ye can not entre into the kingdom of heauen.
