Luke 16:25

Matthew's Bible 1537

But Abraham sayd vnto hym. Sonne, remembre that thou in thy lyfe tyme, receyuedest thy pleasure, and contrarywyse Lazarus payne. Nowe therfore is he conforted, and thou arte punyshed.

But wo be to you that are riche: for ye haue therin your consolacion.

Se that ye loue not the world, neyther the thynges that are in the worlde. Yf anye man loue the worlde the loue of the father is not in him.

From the men of thy hande (O Lord) from the men of the worlde, which haue theyr porcion in this lyfe: whose bellyes thou fyllest with thy treasure. They haue chyldren at theyr desyre, and leaue the rest of of theyr substaunce for their babes.

and strengthed the disciples soules exhortynge them to continue in the faith, affyrmyng that we must thorowe muche tribulacion enter into the kingdome of God.

and those rather to suffer aduersitie wyth the people of God, then to enioy the pleasures of synne for a season,

that no man should be moued in these afflicons. For ye your selues knowe that we are euen appointed there vnto.

And I sayd vnto hym: Lorde thou wotest. And he said vnto me: these are they which came out of great tribulacion, and made their garmentes large and made them white, in the bloude of the lambe,

These wordes haue I spoken vnto you, that in me you myght haue peace. For in the worlde shall you haue tribulacyon: but be of good cheare. I haue ouercome the worlde.

And beynge in hell in tormentes, he lyfte vp hys eyes, and sawe Abraham a farre of, & Lazarus in his bosome,

And there was a certayne begger named Lazarus, whiche laye at hys gate full of sores,

The very same nyghte was Balthazar the kynge of the Caldees slayne,

Zain. Now doth Ierusalem remembre the tyme of her misery & dysobedience, yee the ioye and pleasure that she hath had in tymes past: seynge her people is brought downe thorow the power of their enemie, & there is no man for to helpe her: her enemies stande lokinge at her & laugh her Sabbath dayes to scorne.

Loke what is in their houses, it contynueth still: their dwellyng places endure from one generacion to another, and are called after their owne names vpon the earth.

where as he (notwithstandinge) fylleth their houses wyth all good Whyche meanyng of the vngodly be farre from me.

Their eyes swell for fatnesse, they do euen what they lyst.

and sayd: Syr, we remembre that this deceyuer sayed whyle he was yet alyue. After thre daies I will aryse agayne.

Beyonde all thys, betwene you and vs there is a great space set, so that they whiche would go from hence to you can not, neyther maye come from thence to vs.

cursed shall thyne aulmery be & thy store.
