O Hierusalem, Hierusalem, whiche killest Prophetes, and stonest them that are sent to the: howe often woulde I haue gathered thy chyldren together, as the hen gathered her neste vnder her wynges, but ye would not.

Whyche of the prophetes haue not your fathers persecuted? And they haue slayne them, which shewed before of the comminge of the iuste whom ye haue nowe betrayed and mordred.

For the Lorde God, euen the holy one of Israell hath promysed thus: Wyth styll syttynge and rest shall ye be healed, in quyetnesse & hope shall youre strength lye.

My people had no lust to turne vnto me, their prophetes laye the yocke vpon them, but they ease them not of their burthen.

But the more they were called the more they went backe, offeringe vnto Idols, and ceasinge Images.

Thus sayth the Lorde: go into the streates considre and make inquisicion for the old way and yf it be the good and right waye, then go therein, that ye maye fynde rest for your soules. But they saye: we wyll not walcke therin

It is but lost laboure, that I smyte youre children, for they receyue not my correccyon. Youre owne swearde destroyeth youre Prophetes, lyke a deuourynge lyon.

How precious is thy mercy, O God, that the chyldren of men maye put their trust vnder the shadowe of thy wynges?

The Lord quite thy worck, & a full reward be geuen the of the Lord God of Israel vnto whom thou art come, to truste vnder hys winges.

the remnaunt toke hys seruauntes and intreated them vngodly and slewe them.

and sent forth hys seruauntes to call them that were byd to the wedding, & they woulde not come.

Ain. Therfore do I wepe, & myne eyes gusshe oute of water: for the comforter that shulde quycken me, is farre fro me. My chyldren are dryuen awaye, for why? the enemie hath gotten the ouer hande.

He shall couer the vnder hys wynges, that thou mayest be safe vnder his fethers: his faythfulnesse & trueth shalbe thy shylde and buckler.

O that my people wolde obeye me, for if Israel wolde walke in my wayes:

Let Israell reioyse in hym that made hym, & let the chyldren of Sion be ioyfull in their kyng.

Neuerthelesse they were disobedient, & rebelled against the, and caste thy lawe behynde their backes, and slewe thy Prophetes (which exhorted them so earnestlye, that they shulde conuerte vnto the) and dyd greate blasphemyes.

I would they were wyse and vnderstode thys & woulde consider their later ende.

Oh that they had such an hert wyth them to feare me and kepe al my commaundementes alway, that it myght go wel with them & with theyr children foreuer.

And theyr bodies shal lye in the stretes of the great city, whiche spyrytually is called Sodome and Egypte, where oure Lorde was crucyfyed.

Saul had pleasure in hys death. And at the tyme ther was a great persecution agaynste the congregation, whiche was at Ierusalem, & they were all scattered abroade thorowout the regions of Iury & Samaria, excepte the Apostles.

And they stoned Stephan calling on & saiyng: Lord Iesu receiue my spyryte.

And he was angrye, and woulde not go in. Then came hys father out, and intreated him

Kepe me as the apple of an eye, defende me vnder the shadow of thy wynges.

And therfore thus saieth the Lorde of Hostes the God of Israell: Beholde I will brynge vpon Iuda and vpon euery one that dwelleth in Ierusalem, al the trouble that I haue deuysed agaynst them. For I haue spoken vnto them, but they woulde not folowe. I haue called vnto them, neuertheles they woulde geue me no answere.
