So the master of the shyppe came to hym and sayde vnto hym: why slomberest thou? Vp, call vpon thy God: yf God (happely) wil thyncke vpon vs, that we peryshe not.

Who can tell? God maye turne, & repente & cease from his fearce wrath, that we perish not.

And he aunswered: while the chylde was alyue, I fasted and wept. For I this thought: who can tel whether God wil haue mercye on me that the chylde may lyue.

Wherfore he sayth: awake thou that slepest, and stand vp from death, and Christ shall geue the lyght.

Hate the euil, and loue the good: set vp right agayne in the porte: & (no doute) the Lorde God of hostes shal be mercyful vnto the remnaunt of Ioseph,

Then Paul aunswered and sayd: what do ye wepynge and breakyng myne hert? I am ready not to be bound onelye: but also to dye at Hierusalem for the name of the Lorde Iesus.

The Lorde shall shewe his voyce before hys hoste, for hys hoste is greate, strong and myghtye to fulfyll hys commaundement. This is that greate and merueylous fearefull daye of the Lorde: And who is able to abyde it.

what meane by thys comen prouerbe that ye vse in the land of Israel sayinge: The fathers haue eaten soure grapes, and the childrens teth are set on edge?

Wherfore do ye oppresse my people, and marre the faces of the innocentes? thus shall the God of Hostes reuyle them.

So they cryed vnto the Lorde in theyr trouble, and he deliuered them from theyr distresse.

When he slewe them, they sought hym, & turned them early vnto God.

Go thou thy waye then, and gather together all the Iewes that are founde at Susan, and fast ye for me, that ye eat not & drinke not in thre dayes, nether day nor nyght. I & my Damosels wil fast lykewise, and so wil I go into the kynge contrary to the commaundement: yf I perish I peryshe.

Thys also we knowe, I meane the season, howe that it is tyme, that we should now awake oute of slepe. For nowe is oure saluacyon nearer, then when we beleued.

but put on sack cloth both man and beast, and crye myghtely vnto God: yee se that euery man turne from hys euell waye, and from the wyckednesse, that he hath in hande.
