Joel 2:3

Matthew's Bible 1537

Before hym shall be a consumynge fyre, and behynde him a burnyng flamme. The land shal be as a garden of pleasure before him, but behynde hym shall it be a very waste wyldernes, and there is no man, that shall escape hym.

The Lorde God also planted a garden in Eden from the beginning, and there he sette man whom he had formed.

Agayne the Lorde shewed me thys vysyon: beholde, the Lorde God called the fyre to punish withal, and it deuoured the greate depe: yea it consumed a parte already.

Thys people shall eate vp thy frute & thy meate, yea they shall deuoure thy sonnes and thy doughters, thy shepe and thy bullockes. They shall eate vp thy grapes & fygges. As for thy stronge and well fensed cyties, wherein thou dyddest trust, they shal destroy them with the swerde.

Oure God shal come, and not kepe silence there goeth before him a consuming fyre, and a mighty tempest round about him.

And Lot lyft vp hys eyes, and beheld al the contry about Iordane, whych was a plentuous contry of water euery wher, before the Lorde destroyed Sodome & Gomorha, euen as the garden of the Lorde, & as the Land of Egypt tyll thou come to Zoar.

There goeth a fyre before hym, to burne vp hys enemyes on euery syde.

For the vngodlye burne as a fyre in the bryers and thornes. And as it were oute of a fyre in a wood or a read bushe, so ascendeth the smoke of their pryde.

For this cause shall the wrath of the Lorde of Hostes fal vpon the lande, and the people shalbe consumed, as it were with fyre, no man shall spare his brother.

Is this he that made the worlde in a maner waste, and layde the cytyes to the grounde, whyche let not his prisoners go home?

The waters of Nimrim were dried vp, the grasse was withred, the herbes destroied, and what necessary grene thing there was beside.

Then shall it be sayde: this waste lande is become lyke a garden of pleasure, & the voyde, desolate and broken downe cytyes, are now strong, and fensed agayne.

and that theyr spoyle maye be gathered, as the gresshoppers are comonly gathered together into the pyt.

For lo, I wyll rase vp the Caldees, that bitter and swifte people: whiche shall go as wyde as the land is, to take possessyon of dwellyng places, that be not theyr owne.
