Now therfore sayeth the Lorde: Turne you vnto me wyth all youre hertes, wyth fastynge, wepynge and mournynge,

Then turne to thy God, kepe mercye and equyte, and hope still in thy God.

O Israel, yf thou wylt turne the, then turne vnto me, sayeth the Lorde. And yf thou wilt put awaye thine abhominacyons out of my sight, thou shalt not be moued.

In their aduersite they shal seke me, and said: come, let vs turne againe to the lord: for he hathe smyten vs, & he shall heale vs:

And they gathered together to Mazphah, & drue water & poured it out before the Lorde, & fasted the same daye, & sayde there: we haue synned agaynst the Lord. And Samuel iudged the causes of the chyldren of Israel in Mazphah.

And Samuel spake vnto al Israel, saying: yf ye become agayne vnto the Lorde wyth al youre hertes, then put awaye the straunge Goddes from among you, & Astharoth, & prepare your hertes vnto the Lorde, & serue hym alone, & so shal he rydde you out of the handes of the Philistines.

but shewed fyrst vnto them of Damasco, and at Hierusalem and through out all the coastes of Iewry, and to the gentyls, that they should repent, & tourne to God, and do the ryght workes of repentaunce.

O Israel, turne the nowe, vnto the Lorde thy God, for thou hast taken a greate fall thorow thy wickednes.

Then the chyldren of Israell and all the people went vp and came vnto Bethel, and wepte and sat there before the Lorde, & fasted the same daye vnto euen, and offered burntofferinges and peace offeringes before the Lorde.

& that they should say vnto the priestes, which were in the house of the Lord of hostes, & to the prophetes: should I wepe in the fyfte moneth, and absteyne, as I haue done now cerrtain yeares?

And at the same tyme shall the Lorde of Hostes call men to wepinge, mourninge, to baldnesse & puttynge on of sacke clothe.

Speake vnto all the people of the land, & to the priestes, and saye: when ye fasted and mourneth in the .v. & .vij. moneth (now this .lxx. yeares) dyd ye fast vnto me?

Go thou thy waye then, and gather together all the Iewes that are founde at Susan, and fast ye for me, that ye eat not & drinke not in thre dayes, nether day nor nyght. I & my Damosels wil fast lykewise, and so wil I go into the kynge contrary to the commaundement: yf I perish I peryshe.

Beholde, when ye fast, your lust remayneth still: for ye do no lesse vyolence to youre detters: lo, ye falle to stryfe and debate, and to smite hym wyth youre fyst that speaketh vnto you. Ye fast not (as som tyme) that your voyce might be hearde aboue.

And shalt sweare: The Lorde liueth: in truthe, in equyte and ryghteousnesse: and al people shalbe fortunable and ioyful in him.

Tell them: As trulye as I lyue, sayeth the Lorde God, I haue no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but moch rather that the wicked turne from his waye and lyue. Turne you, turne you from your vngodlye wayes, O ye of the house of Israell. Oh, wherfore wyll ye dye?

and I turned me vnto god the Lorde, for to praye and make myne intercession, with fastinge, sackcloth & ashes,

And now make your prayer before God, that he may haue mercy vpon vs: for suche thinges haue ye done. Shal he regarde your personnes, thyncke ye, sayeth the Lorde of hostes?

And the Lord spake vnto Moses, say vnto the chyldren of Israel: ye are a styfnecked people: I must come once sodenly vpon you, & make an ende of you. But now put youre goodly rayment from you, that I maye wete what to do vnto you.

And when the Angel of the Lorde had spoken these wordes vnto al the chyldren of Israel, the people cryed oute & wepte.

And Dauids herte smote him after that he had nombred the people. And he sayde vnto the Lorde: I haue sinned excedingly in that I haue done. And nowe Lorde take away the trespace of thy seruaunt: for I haue done folishely.

then heare thou from heauen, and be mercyfull vnto the synne of thy seruauntes, & of thy people Israel, that thou shewe them a good waye to walke in, and sende rayne vpon thy lande whiche thou haste geuen vnto thy people, for an enherytaunce.

And the messengers went wyth letters of the hande of the kynge and of his Lordes thorou out all Israel and Iuda, at the commaundement of the kyng which sayde: chyldren of Israel, turne agayne vnto the Lorde God of Abram, Isaac and Israel, and so wil he turne to the remnaunt of you that are escaped out of the handes of the kynge of Assur.

O ye shrinkynge chyldren, turne agayne, (sayinge: lo, we are thyne, for thou arte the Lorde oure God:) And so shall I heale your bacturnynges.

Peraduenture they will praye mekely before the face of the Lord, and turne euery one from his wicked waie. For greate is the wrath and displeasure, that the Lorde hath taken agaynst this people.

But the marchaunte hath a false weyght in his hande, he hath a pleasure to occupye extorsion.

Gyrde you, & make youre mone, O ye prestes: mourne ye mynysters of the aulter: go youre way in, and slepe in sackcloth, O ye offycers of my God: for the meate and drinckofferynge shall be taken awaye from the house of youre God.
