Matthew's Bible 1537

Loke what the caterpyller hath lefte, that hath the greshopper eaten vp: what the greshopper lefte, that hath the locuste eaten vp: & what the locuste hath lefte, that hath the blastyng consumed.

And as for the yeares that the greshopper, locuste, blastynge, & caterpyller (my greate hoste, whiche I sente amonge you) haue eaten vp, I shal restore them to you agayne,

I haue smiten you with drouth & blasting: and loke howe manye orchardes, vineyardes, fyggetrees & olyue trees ye had: the caterpyller hath eaten them vp. But yet wil ye not turne vnto me, sayeth the Lorde.

The Lorde God shewed me such a vysyon: beholde, there stode one that made gresshoppers, euen when the corne was shuting forth, after the kinge had clypte hys shepe.

and that theyr spoyle maye be gathered, as the gresshoppers are comonly gathered together into the pyt.

How he gaue their frutes vnto the catyrpyller, & their labour vnto the greshopper.

If thou wylt not lette my people go: beholde, to morrowe wyll I brynge greshoppers into thy lande,

The Lord of hostes hath sworne by him selfe, that he wyll ouer whelme the wt men lyke greshoppers in nombre, which with a corage shall crye Alatum Alarum agaynst the.

He spake the worde, and ther were greshoppers and catyrpyllers innumerable.

Moreouer yf I shut vp heauen that there be no rayne, or yf I commaund the locustes to deuoure the lande, or yf I send pestilence among my people:

Thou shalt carie moch seed out in the felde & shalt gather but lytle in: for the greshopers shall destroye it.

Set vp a token in the lande: blow the trompettes amonge the Heythen, prouoke the nacyons agaynst her, call the kyngedomes of Ararat, Memni, and Ascanes agaynste her: nombre oute Taphsar agaynst her, bryng as greate a sorte of horses against her, as yf they were greshoppers.

If there chaunce death in the lande, pestylence, blastynge, or wytheryng of corne, or that the frutes be deuoured of Grashoppers or Caterpyllers, or yf theyr enemyes besege them in the lande & in theyr owne cytyes, or whatsoeuer plage or sycknesse chaunce:

If there chaunce darthe in the lande, pestilence, burnynge or smytynge of corne, grashoppers or caterpyllers, or that theyr enemies besege them in the cytyes of theyr owne land, or what soeuer plage or syckenesse it be.

All thy trees and frute of thy lande shalbe marred with blastynge.

and they shall couer the face of the earth that it can not be seene, and they shal eate the residue whiche remayneth vnto you and escaped the hayle: and they shall eate all youre grene trees vppon the feilde,

Yea, I shal reproue the consumer for youre sakes, so that he shall not eate vp the frute of youre grounde, neyther shall the vineyarde be baren in the felde, sayeth the Lord of hostes.
