Matthew's Bible 1537

Suffer afflictyons: sorowe ye and wepe. Let youre laughter be turned to mornynge and youre ioye to heauynes.

Blessed are they that morne, for they shalbe comforted.

The herte is sorowfull euen in a laughter, and the ende of mirth is heuinesse.

Wo be to you that are full: for ye shal honger. Wo be to you that nowe laugh: for ye shall wayle and wepe.

Before I was troubled, I wente wronge but now I kepe thy word.

that thou mayest thyncke vpon it, be ashamed, and excuse thine owne confusyon no more: when I haue forgeuen the, all that thou hast done, sayeth the Lorde God.

And soche as escape and fle from amonge them, shall be vpon the hylles, lyke as the doues in the felde: euery one shalbe afrayed, because of his owne wickednesse.

my harpe is turned to sorow and my pype to wepynge.

Blessed are ye that honger nowe: for ye shalbe satisfyed. Blessed are ye that wepe nowe for ye shall laughe.

The ioye of oure herte is gone, oure merye quere is turned into mournynge.

Then shall the mayde reioyce in the daunce yea both yonge and olde folkes. For I wyll turne theyr sorowe into gladnesse, and wyll comforte them, and make them ioyfull, euen from theyr hertes.

They departed from hence in heuynes, but wyth ioye wyll I brynge them hyther agayne. I wyl lede them by the ryuers of water in a straighte waye, where they shall not stomble: For I wyll be Israels father, and Ephraim shalbe my fyrstborne.

in so much that I sayd vnto laughter: thou art mad, and to myrthe: what doest thou?

It is good for me that I haue bene in trouble, that I may learne thy statutes.

Myne eyes gusshe out with water, because men kepe not thy lawe.

And Nehemiah (whyche is Hathirsatha) & Esdras the prest and scrybe, and the Leuites that caused the people to take hede, sayde vnto all the people: thys daye is holy vnto the Lord youre God: be not ye sory therfore, & wepe not. For all the people wepte when they hearde the wordes of the lawe.

They sayed vnto hym: he wyll cruellye destroye those euyll persons, and wyll let out hys vyneyarde vnto other husbandmen, which shall delyuer hym the frute at tymes conuenient.
