From whence commeth warre & fyghtynge amonge you: come they not hear hence? euen of your voluptuousnes, that rayne in youre membres.

Dearely beloued, I beseche you as straungers and pylgremes, obstayne from fleshely lustes, which fyght agaynste the soule,

For the flesh lusteth contrarye to the spirite, and the spirite contrarye to the fleshe. These are contrarye one to the other, so that ye cannot do that which ye would.

But I se another lawe in my membres rebellynge agaynst the lawe of my mynde and subduynge me vnto the lawe of synne whyche is in my membres.

Because that the fleshlye minde is enemy agaynste God: for it is not obediente to the lawe of God, neyther can be.

But euerye man is tempted, drawne awaye, & entysed of hys owne concupiscence.

Amonge all thynges lyuinge, man hath the moste disceytfull and vnsercheable herte. Who shall then knowe it?

as obedyent chyldren not fashyonynge youre selues vnto your old lustes of ignorauncye:

Mortifie therfore, youre members whiche are on the earth, fornicacion, vnclenes, vnnatural, lust euil concupiscence, and couetousnesse, which is worshippinge of Idolles,

This fyrst vnderstande, that there shall come in the laste dayes mockers, which wyll walke after their own lustes

Ye axe and receyue not, because ye axe a mysse: euen to consume it vpon youre voluptuousnes

For when they haue spoken the swellinge wordes of vanitie, they begyle with wantonnes thorowe the lustes of the fleshe, them that were cleane escaped, but nowe are wrapped in errours.

For we our selues also in tymes paste, vnwyse, dysobedient, deceyued, in daunger to lustes, and to dyuers maners of voluptuousnes, lyuyng in malycyousnes and enuye, ful of hate, hatyng one another.

Folysh questions and genealogyes, and braulynge and stryfe aboute the law auoyde: for they are vnprofytable and superfluous.

For when we were in the fleshe the lustes of synne whych were sterred vp by the law reygned in oure membres, to brynge forthe fruyte vnto deathe.

For out of the hert come euil thoughtes, murther, breakyng of wedlocke, whoredom, thefte, false, witnes bearing, blasphemye.

Ye are of youre father the deuyl, and the lustes of your father ye wyll do. He was a murtherer from the begynnyng, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truthe in hym. When he speaketh a lye, then speaketh he of hys owne. For he is a lyar, and the father therof.
