Hosea 3:1

Then sayde the Lorde to me: Go yet thy waye, & vowe an aduouterous woman, whom thy neyghboure loueth, as the Lord doeth the children of Israell: how be it they haue respecte to straunge Goddes, and loue the wine kannes.

Vpon this complainte, I thoughte thus by my selfe: is not Ephraim my deare sonne? Is he not the chylde, with whom I haue had all myrthe and pastyme? For sence the tyme that I fyrst commened with him, I haue him euer in remembraunce: therfore my verye herte dryueth me vnto hym, gladly and louynglye will I haue mercy vpon him, sayth the Lorde.

And therfore turne you vnto me (all ye endes of the earth) so shall ye be saued, for I am God, and there is els none.

Neuerthelesse I wyll loke vp vnto the Lorde, I wyll pacyentlye abyde God my sauyoure: my God shall heare me.

What greate thinges haue I geuen the, O Ephraim? how faythfully haue I defended the, O Israel? haue I dealt wt the as with Adama? or haue I entreated the lyke Seboim? No, my herte is otherwyse minded. Yea, my mercye is to feruent:

For it is sufficient for vs, that we haue spent the time that is past of the lyfe, after the wil of the Gentiles, walking in wantonnes, lustes, dronckennes, in eatinge, drinkinge & in abominable Idolatrie.

Therfore thus sayeth the Lord: I wyl turne me againe in mercy toward Ierusalem, so that my house shalbe buylded in it, saith the Lord of Hostes: yea and the plommet shalbe layd abroad in Ierusalem, sayeth the Lorde of hostes.

But lyke as a woman fayleth her louer, so are ye vnfaithfull vnto me (O ye house of Israel) sayeth the Lorde.

Beholde euen, as the eyes of seruauntes loke vnto the handes of their maysters: and as the eyes of a maiden vnto the handes of her mastresse, euen so oure eyes wayte vpon the Lorde our God vntylll he haue mercy vpon vs.

Ye can not drinke of the cuppe of the Lorde: and of the cuppe of the deuils. Ye can not be partakers of the Lordes table, and of the table of the deuils.

ye that drincke wyne oute of goblettes, and annoynte youre selues with the best oyle, but no man is sorye for Iosephs hurte.

they lye besyde euery aulter vpon clothes taken to pledge, and in the house of theyr Goddes they drincke the wyne of the oppressed.

But for thy greate mercyes sake thou haste not vtterlye consumed them, nether forsaken them: for thou arte a gracyous and mercyfull God.

But the Lorde had mercye on them & pytyed them, & turned to them, because of hys appoyntment made with Abraham, Isaac & Iacob, & wolde not destroye them, ether caste them from hym as yet.

& gaue amonge all the folcke, euen amonge the hole multytude of Israel, as well to the wemen as men euerye one a cake of bread, and a pece of fleshe and a flacket of wyne. And so the people departed euerye man to hys house.

And they put awaye the straunge Goddes from them, and serued the Lorde. And the myserye of Israel greued hys soule.

And they went out into the feldes, & gathered in theyr grapes & troade them, & made mery: and went into the house of theyr God, & dyd eate & dryncke & cursed Abimelech.

And they rose vp in the mornynge and offred burntoffringes, and brought offrynges of attonemente also. And than they satte them doune to eate and drinke, and rose vp agayne to play.

Neyther be ye worshippers of Images as were some of them accordynge at it is written: The people sate doune to eate and drynke, and rose vp agayne to playe.

And Iesus sayde vnto hym: frende, wherfore arte thou come? Then came they, and layed handes on Iesus, & toke him.

Euen so goeth it thys day with oure kinges & princes, for they beginne to be wodde droncken thorowe wine, they vse familarite with suche as disceyue him.

Whordome, wine and drockennesse take the herte away.

And he dealt all Israel bothe man and woman cracknell of breade a pece of fleshe and a messe of soppes.

Refreshe me wyth grapes, comforte me with apples, for I am sycke of loue.

Their mother hath broken their wedlocke, and she that bare them, is come to confusyon. For she sayd: I will go after my louers, that geue me my water and bread, my woll and flax, my oyle and my drincke.
