An oxe knoweth hys Lorde, & an Asse his masters stall: but Israel knoweth nothynge, my people hath no vnderstanding.

And now they synne more and more: of their syluer, they make them molten Images, lyke the Idoles of the Heathen, and yet al is nothinge but the worcke of the craftesmre. Notwithstandinge they preach of the same: who so wil kisse the calues, offreth to men.

They haue ordeyned kinges, but not thorowe me: they haue made princes, and I must not know of it. Of their siluer and golde haue they made them Images, to bringe them selues to destruccion.

Whordome, wine and drockennesse take the herte away.

And as it semed not good vnto them to be a knowen of God, euen so God deliuered them vp vnto a leud minde, that they should do those thinges, whiche were not comly,

And not longe after, the yonger sonne gathered all that he had together, & toke hys iorneye into a farre countrye, & there he wasted hys goodes with ryetous liuing.

Therfore offre they vnto theyr net, and do sacryfyce vnto theyr yarne: because that thorowe it theyr porcyon is become so fat, & theyr meate so plenteous.

Their mother hath broken their wedlocke, and she that bare them, is come to confusyon. For she sayd: I will go after my louers, that geue me my water and bread, my woll and flax, my oyle and my drincke.

but hast magnyfyed thy selfe aboue the Lorde of heauen, so that the vessels of hys house were broughte before the, that thou, and thy Lordes, with thy quene and concubynes, myght drincke wyne thereoute: And hast praysed the Idoles of syluer and golde, copper and yron, of wode and stone: As for the God in whose hande consysteth thy breth and all thy wayes: thou haste not loaued hym.

The chyldren gather stickes the fathers kyndle the fyre, the mothers kneade the doughe, to bake cakes for the quene of heauen, They poure out drincke offerynges vnto straunge goddes, to prouoke me vnto wrath:

Ye fooles (no doute) wyll take out syluer & golde oute of youre purses, and weye it, and hyre a gold smith to make a God of it, that men maye knele downe & worshippe it.

And they went out into the feldes, & gathered in theyr grapes & troade them, & made mery: and went into the house of theyr God, & dyd eate & dryncke & cursed Abimelech.

Israel was a goodly vyne, but he hath brought forth vnprofytable frute: yea, the more frute he had, the mo aulters he made: the more good I dyd to their lande, the more frendshyppe shewed they to their Images.

But remembre the Lord thy God, how that it is he which gaue the power to do manfullye, for to make good the promises whiche he sware to thy fathers, as it is come to passe this day.

thou sattest vpon a goodlye bed, & a table spred before the: whervpon thou hast set mine incense and myne oyle.

O Lorde oure God, all thys kepe that we haue prepared to buylde the an house for thy holy name, cometh of thyne hande, & is all thyne.

He had hedged vp my payth, I can not get awaye, he hath set darckenesse in my gate.
