Hosea 10:1

Israel was a goodly vyne, but he hath brought forth vnprofytable frute: yea, the more frute he had, the mo aulters he made: the more good I dyd to their lande, the more frendshyppe shewed they to their Images.

Ephraim hath made many aulters to do wickednes, therfore shall the aulters turne to his sinne.

But at Galaad is the abhominacyon, they are fallen to vanitye. At Galgal they haue slayne oxen: and as many heapes of stones as they had in their lande forowes, so manye aulters haue they made.

For al other seke theyr owne, and not that whiche is Iesus Christes.

I shal answere them: Where are now thy Goddes, that thou hast made the? byd them stande vp, & helpe the in the time of nede? For loke how many cityes thou hast (O Iuda) so many Goddes hast thou also.

For they also made them hyll aulters & Images & groues on euerye hye hyl, and vnder euery grene tre.

Wherfore hence forthe knowe we no man after the fleshe. In so muche though we haue knowen Christe after the fleshe, nowe hence forth knowe we hym so no more.

for the Lorde shal restore agayne the glorye of Iacob, lyke as the glory of Israell. The destroyers haue broken them downe, & marred the wyne braunches.

But when they were wel fedde & had ynough, they waxed proude, and forgat me.

And now they synne more and more: of their syluer, they make them molten Images, lyke the Idoles of the Heathen, and yet al is nothinge but the worcke of the craftesmre. Notwithstandinge they preach of the same: who so wil kisse the calues, offreth to men.

Ephraim thinketh thus: Tush, I am ryche, I haue good ynoughe. In all my worckes shall not one fawte be founde, that I haue offended.

They haue ordeyned kinges, but not thorowe me: they haue made princes, and I must not know of it. Of their siluer and golde haue they made them Images, to bringe them selues to destruccion.

But this woulde she not knowe, where as I yet gaue her corne, wyne, oyle, syluer & gold, whiche she hath hangeth vpon Baal.

Thus the children of Israell shall syt a great whyle without king and Prince, withoute offeringe and aulter, without prest and reuelacion.

The more they increased in the multitude, the more they sinned against me, therfore will I chaunge their honoure into shame.

Yet can I se no comforte, for when he is nowe the goodlyest among the brethren, the East wynde (euen the wynd of the Lorde) shall come doune from the wyldernesse, and drye vp hys condytes, and drincke vp hys welles: he shall spoyle the treasure of all pleasaunte vessels.

For as manye cytyes as thou haste, O Iuda, so many Goddes haste thou also: And loke how many stretes there be in the (O Ierusalem) so manye shamefull aulters haue ye set vp, to offre vpon them vnto Baal.

For the Lorde of hostes that planted the, hath deuysed a plage for the, (O thou house of Israell and Iuda) for the euyll that ye haue done to prouoke hym to wrath, in that ye dyd seruyce vnto Baal.

And nowe will I discouer her folyshenesse, euen in the syghte of her louers, and no man shal deliuer her oute of my handes.
