Thus speaketh the Lord of hostes, and sayeth: This people doth saye: The tyme is not yet come to buylde vp the Lordes house.

Now when kynge Arthaxerses letter was read before Rehum the chaunceler and Samsai the scribe and their counsel, they went vp in al the hast to Ierusalem vnto the Iewes, & forbad them wyth vyolence and power.

And Iuda sayd: the strength of the bearers is to feble, & there is to muche duste, we are not able to buylde on the wall.

He that regardeth the wynde, shall not sowe: and he that hath respecte vnto the cloudes, shall not reape.

Whatsoeuer thou takest in hande to do, that do wyth all thy power: for among the dead, wher as thou goest vnto, ther is nether worcke, councel, knowledge ner wysdome.

But the men that went vp wyth hym, sayde: We be not able to go vp agaynste the people for they are stronger then we:

He that feareth men, shall haue a fall: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lorde shall come to honoure.

The slouthful body sayeth: ther is a lyon wythoute, I myghte be slayne in the strete.

In the seconde yeare of Kynge Darius, in the .vi. moneth, the first day of the moneth, came the worde of the Lorde (by the Prophete Aggeus) vnto Zorobabel the sonne of Salathiel the prynce of Iuda, and to Iesua the sonne of Iosedech the hye prieste, sayinge:

Then spake the Lord by the Prophete Aggeus, and sayde:

Then kynge Iehoas called for Iehoiada the priest, & for the other priestes also, and sayde to them: why repayre ye not the broken places of the temple? Now therfore se that ye receyue no more money of your aquayntaunce, but delyuer it to repayre the temple wythall.

A tyme to slay, and a tyme to make whole. A time to breake down, & a time to bild vp.
